You need the card. It's like cash, you lose it...

You could try "cloning" the old hard drive to the new one. Other than that, you would need to purchase a new license. But on the bright side, you would get a new Speed Editor keyboard included (for a limited time).

If someone has lost the card, Black Magic Design should have a record of it. To expect a user to have to pay another $299 is ridiculous. Poor way to treat customers.

Blackmagic doesn't sell the cards to users, only to retailers, so they wouldn't have those records, Mike.

Black Magic Design should keep a record of the cards.

They would have to sell them directly to end users for that.

But...they don't. So...they can't.

Thanks to this thread and a near misplacement of my card (found it in the Speed Editor Box) - I learned a lesson. I immediately scanned the card and put it on any file server with all Blackmagic files/etc and also made printed versions to have with my video equipment boxes so I did not have to sweat bullets again.

Fortunately, I only need the free version. It still is not good business practice to expect a purchaser to pay again.

Does the serial number originate from Black Magic Design?

It does. But it seems bit of s stretch to believe the retailers are reporting the identity of buyers to BMD. And in the case of a cash purchase, they'd have nothing to report anyway.

What you want here, Mike, just isn't reasonable.

I first purchased Adobe Premiere in 1991. I was always able to contact Adobe and get my serial number if necessary without having to purchase the program again. End of topic.
