Slider Lense Needed

PostWed Aug 28, 2013 2:55 am

Hey BM forumites, I am in need of a wide angle lense that has IS to work with my BMCC for use with my cinemoco, any recommendations? I am getting some shakes with my 25mm Zeiss, check these videos out to see some shake, all were done on tracks, I will mainly be doing drumhead demos with the unit, recomends?

From the looks of it, I'd say it's more of a camera support issue. Either the slider isn't great or the tripod you're using can't take the weight of it + camera + lens.

EDIT: Are you using it by hand or with a motor?

Hi!

The problem is in your operation with the slider, or the slider construction itself. I advise you to try out the same camera setup with Kessler Cine Slider and see for yourself.

The lens with IS isn't really gonna help. Try stabilizing your footage in Resolve or other software for now.

I think it is a weight issue, bmcc fully loaded with cage, the cinemoco is a very flexible motorized system. Too bad the pocket camera is where it is as I would get that for the slider shots

It looks like a little more than a weight issue though. Are the test shots all done with the motor or are any of them by hand? There are quite a few erratic jerks in the movement, which makes me think either the tripod, the camera or the slider is being touched or bumped in a way.

Image stabilisation in lenses is great for handheld work, but isn't really recommended for tripod or slider use, as it can create odd looking movements and jerks in pans.

Your slider system support weight up to 5 kgs. Get rid of the rig, and make some tests with just the camera and a lens (that's about 3kg). Waiting for your results :p
