Fusion Studio dongle - clarification of the license

PostMon Apr 05, 2021 6:50 am

Hello,
I bought Fusion Studio. I thought I bought version 16, but I received a box with version 9. But the USB dongle also works with version 17. (I'm also confused) :)
I tried to find in the discussions how it is with the license for Davinci Resolve. I'm not clear on that. Anyway, the Fusion dongle works with Davinci Resolve version 17
My question is, is it legal to use Resolve Studio with a dongle for Fusion Studio?

Thank you!

Yes. All fusion dongles from the last decade are going to work with Fusion Studio and DaVinci Resolve Studio. And it's legal to do so.

Edit: I also got a Fusion 9 dongle when I bought a Fusion 16 dongle btw. I don't think there are dongles/boxes with F16/F17 design.

So that's great news! This is very noble from BlackMagic. Thank you!

It seems this is not true anymore

I can run Fusion 17 Studio without problem with my Fusion dongle, but Resolve stays in "free" mode and refuses to offer the Studio features...

Am I doing something wrong?

There is no "free" mode for Resolve, there is the free version and the Studio version. You have to download the Studio version and have a key or dongle to run it.
Win 10 Home | Intel i7 - 10700f 64 GB 1 TB GB SSD 2 TB SSD
RTX-3060 12 GB | Resolve Studio 18.6.6| Fusion Studio 18.6.6

Oh dear - how embarrassing

Downloaded/installed the right version of Resolve (the actual Studio version) and all works like a charm...

Many thx!!

PS: When prompted for the serial number while downloading Resolve Studio you can enter the Fusion Studio serial no.

You are by no means the first person to get confused by this. In fact it comes up on the forum and Reddit regularly. People don't expect there to be two separate versions, as most other software only has a single download for both trial/free vs paid versions.

Or just click 'Download Only' in the bottom left, and never bother to fill out any of the rest of the info :)
