Parcel to UK

PostFri Apr 09, 2021 4:14 pm

Hi,
is there any experience sending a camera under warranty for repair or replacement to BM UK in the year 2021 after BREXIT?

Is it a good idea, who long will it take?

Thanks

Also interested to know this, since every camera I have ever bought from BMD had to be sent to the UK for RMA. Within the EU the manufacturer has to pay for shipping both ways, and BMD UK always have. I guess that's no longer the case (but don't know).

Yes. BMD should put out a statement how this will be handled.
To be honest I would prefer now an office somewhere in the EU.

Can you contact the UK distributor or vendor to see if they’re still honoring the EU practices for warranty repair returns?

Rick, that isn’t the problem. The problem now is that the UK stopped being part of the EU, which means everything has now go through customs clearance and duties. On top of that there is now a lot of chaos between the newly created borders, taking delivery forever. It’s like Boris Johnson’s hair has manifested itself as the new guidelines for how things have to be done at the border.

True enough, but I thought I was responding to the question of who pays for shipping of a warranty repair. There likely won’t be any customs and duties if the shipment is clearly identified as a warranty repair. That’s the way it is in Canada. But you have a good point that there could be an unusually long delay crossing the border anyway.

Is there a reason why BMD is staying in the UK instead of moving to a EU country but then it would create problems with UK customers or maybe being part of the Five Eyes countries with Australia there is a special relationship?
Maybe BMD should open an office in Northern Ireland to handle returns from EU countries?

During my wait for the Speed Editor I was given the unofficial information that BM was relocating stock and hardware from UK to main land EU due to Brexit.
I have not heard anything else about this since though.
