Source Tape incorrectly sorting "Date Time"

PostMon Apr 12, 2021 3:01 am

Within the edit tab, the "Date Created" field sorts correctly. However, in the cut tab and viewing the source tape, content is all over the place. Real creation times are organized as follows in "descending order"

14:19:22
22:25:47
12:34:54
9:55:18
...
13:45:02
10:19:40
11:05:17
...

It's an absolute disaster. All clips register as being shot on the same day and everything. Resolve is simply not putting them in the proper order. It's not just one or two clips, they're practically ALL wrong.

It's non-intuitive, but this may be the designed behaviour. Page 34 in the DVR 17 New Features manual specifically states that the Cut Page Media Panel sort modes work as follows:
Date Time: This mode clusters the clips by day ... and orders the list by timecode.

In fact, according to that manual most of the sort modes group clips by the sorted data item and order the clips within the group by timecode.

It appears that the main purpose of the sort button is to group clips together by the selected piece of data, which allows you to select only that group to be included in the source tape (by pressing "Source" on the Speed Editor keyboard a second time).

The manual says that sorting by "Date Modified" or "Date Imported" are supposed to order clips within the group by those dates, but it looks to me that in fact they too are sorted by timecode. So it's a bit of a question in my mind whether the bug is in the documentation or in the code.

Did you select the sort order in the CUT page? When I did that it worked just fine for me. I had a whole years worth of clips from me and the family to create a family yearly video. Selecting sort order in the CUT page then displayed all the clips in a calendar view by month and day in bin.

If this is true, it should really be renamed as "date timeCODE", especially since the edit tab actually does organize it properly. Within the edit page all the content does organize by the files creation date and creation time, ignoring the timecode.

This makes using cameras like GoPro, DSLR, and DJI drones more difficult, since DJI for example does not include a timestamp on their footage. They are all 00:00:00:00.

The Reference Manual for 17 says that pressing the "sort media pool buttons" (pg 480, ch.24):
Date/Time
Pressing this button will instantly sort all of the clips in the Media Pool by the Date and Time that the clip was created. Pressing this button again will toggle between ascending and descending order.
...
TIP: Changing the Media Pool Sort buttons re-arranges the Source Tape on the fly. This allows you to instantly re-order your Media Pool clips while viewing them with the Search dial.

Unfortunately it is not fixed still and the mention from the manual did disapear.
I see no possibility to group clips taken with different cameras on the same time to be grouped together on source tape.
Source tape seems to be useless if you are capturing with more than one camera (for instance standard camera, drone and gopro)

It's still described on page 304 of the November 2021 edition of the Resolve 17 reference manual. For sorting by "Date Time" it says:
This mode clusters the clips by day, changes the main description field to creation date
and file name, and orders the list by timecode.

If you want the sort order to be by the OS file date, try sorting by "Date Modified". When you sort by "Date Modified" the the manual says:
This mode clusters the clips by day, changes the main description field to creation
date and file name, and orders the list by the last time the clip was modified by the OS filesystem.
