copy dynamic zoom settings to multiple pictures

PostTue Apr 09, 2019 5:27 pm

Hi,

is there a way to copy the dynamic zoom settings of one picture and paste them to multiple others?

I want to create a movie out of 400-500 stills with the same dynamic zoom settings. Doing that manually would be way to much work.

I would be really thankful if someone could help me with this!

Maybe you could make a movie first of all the pictures with the desired timing. Then take the movie you just created and apply the zoom you wanted. You might want to setup a higher resolution for the first movie created to allow for the zoom.

Another thing you can try is to create the timeline with all the pictures at the timing you want. Then mass select all the pictures in the timeline and then mass apply the same zoom to all of them at once.

I already timed the Pictures to some music. each picture is shown about 2 seconds. I just need a slight zoom in in between those 2 seconds for each single picture.

Mass applying the dynamic (!) zoom just does not work, as it easily works with other effects.

Dynamic zoom seems to be excluded fot that function?!

Copy/paste video attributes would be a logical thing to do, I also thought. But for some reason that doesn't work with dynamic zoom.

Some suggestions anyone?

Or is there mabe a way to change the "standard" dynamic zoom settings? because I can turn it on on multiple clips, just not change it.

You can manually keyframe the Transform parameters in the Inspector to attain the same effect as the Dynamic Zoom, then copy and past that to multiple clips.

I am going to re-kindle this fire - as I believe the ability to replicate Dynamic Zoom settings is essential.

Keyframing the transform is nowhere near as efficient and breaks as soon as you alter the fixed zoom, duration, speed or position (slip) of a clip. Which all defeat the beauty of Dynamic Zoom.

I would also like some means to have user-defined presets - similar to what is on the CUT page, but definable and customizable.

I vote for the dinamic zoom to be "pasteable" together with the "paste attributes" function.

I too would like to paste the attributes of a dynamic zoom from one clip to another. Would be very helpful.

I have heard many people say this, but I just don't see how it's possible. Maybe for just a small partial zoom, but not a more significant one, or one that also incorporates X and Y displacement.

So +1 on feature request to allow Dynamic Zooms to be pasteable into other clips.

I would also add the ability to add multiple Dynamic Zooms to one clip, rather than forcing it to go from beginning to end of a single clip. It would be much more versatile if you could specify when the Dynamic Zoom kicks in (because you may not want to start it at the beginning), when it ends, have the ability to stay there where you ended while the clip continues, and add another Dynamic Zoom at that point proceeding from that point to the next position, all over 1 underlying unbroken clip.

Is this really (still) impossible? Failing a simple copy/paste, is there some way to see the exact numerical values associated with a dynamic zoom, so that a second clip can pick up exactly where the first one left off?

As a workaround, you could apply the Dynamic Zoom to an Adjustment Clip then duplicate the Adjustment Clip as many times as you need for the clips you have.

Well thanks for pointing out adjustment clips...very cool feature...but not sure that helps with matching dynamic zooms from one clip to the next. If we could very simply copy the dynamic zoom attributes, then it would be super simple to invert the start and end zooms points, such that the new clip starts the dynamic zoom at the same place the that previous clip left off.

It helps with one clip to the next by duplicating the Adjustment clip for the second clip then clicking the Swap button on the Dynamic Zoom settings in the Inspector. The end of the first zoom will match up with the beginning of the next clips zoom.

Thanks, I can see how that could work. I'm honestly not sure why I find it to be less satisfying than being able to copy/paste the attributes. Maybe it's the same reason that I find it irritating that one can't combine clips on the timeline without creating a new clip...(?) I guess I just like continuity and predictability in software, so in my mind, if one can copy one attribute in a certain way, then one should just as easily be able to copy all attributes in exactly the same way.

But I do appreciate the work-around. Thank you.

I agree, Paste Attributes should work with Dynamic zoom, that would be the better way to copy the Dynamic Zoom.

I haven't used Premier in a long time, but it certainly is true that a lot of things that are complicated or difficult in Resolve are very simple in competing softwares. I have wondered if BMD actually cares...they seem more focused on selling hardware.

Well that makes the free version of Resolve possible. In software development getting new features is about priorities, do you want to have feature X or Y first. Especially when there's not unlimited resources available.

I understand about limited resources, but some of this stuff seems more like unfortunate choices than "new features".

With that said, one could argue that, even with it's obvious quirks and limitations, DaVinci Resolve Studio is a great deal in a world where any number of terrible softwares have gone to subscription models that costs more each and every year than Resolve does for for software that one can buy once and own indefinitely.

Premiere was initially designed as an editing application but Resolve was designed as a colour correction software which has been modified to work as an editing/compositing/grading suite. As a result there are many, many things that are still being sorted out. They are recoding the Fusion & Fairlight software (which were both purchased by BMD) as well as the editing part of Resolve to all work together smoothly. They care, but it's a very long process and they have to keep a balance of priorities to keep BMD viable as a business.

I've just found a quick way to do this:

1. Set your dynamic zoom on clip 1

2. Duplicate this clip

3. In the media pool, select the in point of the 2nd clip – that you want to apply the dynamic zoom to

4. Then use the 'replace clip' edit tool to insert clip 2

You new clip has now replaced your duplicated clip and has retained its dynamic zoom, perfectly applied

I don't mean to seem ungrateful, but I really believe that this functionality should be built in, part of the normal dynamic zoom workflow.

Four years gone by without a fix...it seems pretty clear that the powers that be don't care about this.

I hope this won't seem offensive, but I'm getting the sense that many DR users wear the inherent difficulty of doing certain things like a badge of honor. As if a thing that is not sufficiently hard to do is not worth doing. Especially when talking down to an "amateur" like me who is more interested in the result than the process. (Stupid "amateurs"...just want to be able to edit video without enduring the rite of passage required to become a "pro". Pfhhh.)

It seems like almost anything CAN be done via Fusion, but it often requires a mind-numbing amount of time and complication to achieve a result that can be accomplished very quickly and easily in some other software.

I have to say that I'm with SimplSam that you should just be able to copy and paste, after all; lets say I apply a dynamic zoom in and I don't want to just have it snap back after the initial zoom, I then have to mess around and try and match up the dynamic zooms! Instead of simply being able to copy and paste the dynamic zoom and then swap the In & Outs along with if it's ease in vs out etc.

+10,000

I edit podcasts and live shows, and when I insert the media overtop, it is nice to give it some "Dynamic Movement," but each piece of media is a different duration with different ins and out, so I have to go through and manually add the dynamic to each one.

This feature would save me hours a week and days a year.

Also, as a note to speed up the process...

You can highlight all the clips and turn on the Dynamic Zoom and change the "Zoom Ease" and "Swap" it all in bulk; you just can't adjust the "Ins and Outs" (Red and Green boxes) of the viewer with multiple clips selected but this will save you a few clicks per clip to get these setting locked in before scrub through to adjust each box manually.

@Blackmagic This would also be a fix if you just made the red and green boxes adjustable while selecting multiple clips if the copy-and-paste feature is a problem for some reason.

Agree with all the suggestions.
I do find the workaround of applying zooms to an adjustment layer and copying the adjustment layer so it sits on top of different clips is a good solution for now.

hmm it is an OKAY workaround, but I also want to be able to keyframe the dynamic zoom, so it is not bound to the clip length.
