ASC CDL mode

PostTue Apr 06, 2021 8:15 pm

1) it would be very nice if one more tab in the color is added with a true CDL Slope/Offset/Power/Sat that is exactly numerically and visually the ASC_CDL.
2) that the balls and ring do exactly that
3) that if i load a CDL it map to that and not Lift gamma gain....
4) that the numbers have the same precision of the ASC_CDL (1.000000) and not (1.00)
5) that I can click on a CDL thumbnail and export a single CDL/CCC for vfx
6) that if i load a gallery CDL it apply to the CDL tab and not LGG

This standard has been around for a while and we are starting to see more clients using resolve on set that want to grade in SOP/S and not in LGG/S.

-Bonus
Today, if i set the contrast to do not [use S curve for contrast], the result correction CAN be represented in a CDL, and it should be represented. Now it is just ignored....

+1 - always for more direct one to one controls vs truncated translation.

I've always wondered why the contrast wouldn't get translated into the CDL (I never have the S-curve ON) when it looks like a very straightforward conversion.

Might have something to so with order of operations. If contrast adjustment is in essence power, but happens in wrong place, it can’t be represented in CDL.
I do stuff.

no, straight contrast in CDL is Slope+Lift (no S curve)
