timeline running too fast

PostSun Apr 18, 2021 7:14 pm

Hi

My timelines sometimes 'run fast'
By this I mean that every second about 2 or 3 seconds are played
Its like I am in some sort of 'fast forward' mode that i can't get out of
My guess is that its a 'feature' that is activated by an acidental keystroke, but i can't work out how to inactivate it

The only way to stop it is to dump the preferences and restart which is irritating.

Any thoughts?
TO STRESS, THE TIMELINE IS RUNNING TOO FAST AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FOOTAGE ON IT

All the best!

Alan
This is an intermittent problem, and I cant solve it wthout deleting the preferences

I put it up on this forum before but I had no solutions

I'm trying agin

Sounds like you hit the L key twice.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Hitting the L key repeatedly maybe? You can stop it by hitting K, then a single L to start over at normal speed. More L key taps will further increase playback speed. More info in the help file if you search it for Using JKL to Control Playback.

[Edit: Dupe, sorry! I posted this then saw Jim had already posted the same answer while I was typing]

Hi Bobosola, Jim Simon

Thanks for trying, but that not the solution

On my timeline, J plays backwards at high speed, K is stop, L plays forwards at high speed

So the high speed has been caused by something else

Thanks

I’ve seen this issue occasionally as well. My solution is a restart.

Thanks for the help, but a restart does not help in my case

Can you check if your project settings > playback speed matches your timeline framerate?

Hi Shrinivas

Yes they do match

This was suggested as a solution last time I put the problem on the forum.

Its not anything like this, because it appears on a project that was working fine, so its not a settings issue

The fact that it randomly appears makes me think its activated by an accidental key stroke

Thanks

Under the Playback menu, you can find the actions fast reverse and fast forward - with corresponding keyboard shortcuts if present.

You may check:
a. if invoking either action results in a similar behavior.
b. in the keyboard customisation dialog, click the shortcut in the virtual keyboard (e.g click the Shift button and the L button). Does the bottom leftshow only that action? Do you see other actions that could potentially cause a conflict?

Hi Shrinivas

I have checked and there is nothing there that looks odd
I also looked at all possible playback shortcuts and theres nothing there that it could be

Note
This is only occuring in the edit tab, the colour tab runs fine

I could upload a screen recording so you could see it in action?

Thanks

Alan

Yes, that might help. Please do detail your hardware, OS, peripherals and drivers too - in case someone has an idea.
