Constellation - AFV with External Mixer

PostWed Apr 21, 2021 4:02 am

We have a Constellation and are trying to figure out a good workflow to have our external mixer feed the master audio mix into our Constellation so that it embeds the audio onto all of the outputs.

The part we're getting snagged on is that we need to output the embedded camera audio to the mixer as well with AFV. The only way we've found to do that is to send only the camera audio out of the switcher's analog audio outputs and into the mixer. If we brought the master mix back in, it would then create a loopback.

One solution I've thought of is to pull the camera audio out of the switcher with MADI and send it to the mixer like that, but then the issue becomes AFV. Can the corresponding MADI channels mute as the switcher takes different cameras live?

I'd like to avoid having to use a 3rd party software like companion to switch the show which would allow me to trigger mute/unmute commands as I switch in the mixer.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. I might just be overlooking something and if so, I'd be a very happy man!

Thanks everyone!

does your audio console have any GPI input capability you can use to open/close faders? using tally contact closure to drive that works well.

If your mixer supports OSC then you can use a companion trigger possibly, or a Windows PowerShell script that will send the correct osc commands when ATEM input changes.

Set up a mix minus from the audio desk and the Atem won't feedback on itself.

Good Luck
