How do I only see the clips I've previously used?

PostTue Apr 20, 2021 5:32 pm

So I have a wedding project where I have over 2800 clips that I used to create 3 different videos from the data. Now I need to create a Wedding Teaser and I only want to use the clips I've used before in those videos I made. Is there a way to sort the media pool in a way that I only see clips I've used before in any timeline? That will save me about 5 days of time because I don't have to sort through all the 2800 clips again and I don't need to grade since I can color trace. The teaser is going to be about 1 minute long. So I really need a feature that can help me sort in the media tab only the clips that I have used in any other timeline (in the same project of course). Is there a way to do this? If not, where do I request for this feature cuz it can save a tonne of time in my wedding workflows (and possibly help other people too)?

There are a few ways to do this.

In thumbnail view, clips used in a timeline will have a red line in the thumbnail indicating the used portions.

In list view, there is a Usage column that can be added and used for Sorting.

You can create a Smart Bin based on Usage.

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Hi Sarvesh,

have you tried working with smart bins? You can add tags to the video files used in the timeline and simply create a smart bin with those tags. Gets all the videos with the selected tag in it, making life much easier.

Unfortunately its half baked. Usage column tells you if its used. But you can't sort it on the loaded sequence for example. So if you have a version that no longer uses a clip but a previous version does, it counts as "used" so if you are looking for an unused clip in your current timeline, you can't. And if you duplicate versions of sequences it multiples the "usage".

Usage is kinda useless. there is no way to see the clips you used in a particular sequence and then sort them. For example.

Avid has this down. DR needs major Editorial help.

That's a Smart idea! Nice workaround.
