BMPCC6K / Pro | Favourite lenses

PostSun Mar 28, 2021 11:53 am

Hey guys,

These are my favourites lenses for the BMPCC6K / Pro.

Over the past year I have been shooting quite a lot of different projects and since I am about to receive my 6K pro I thought I would update the list.
These lenses are the ones that I find the most useful for my work as well as some that I think work very well with the bmpcc 6k in general.

What are yours?

Cheers,
Flo

Great video!

my favorite all-purpose lens is a Tamron 24-70mm f2.8.
I've also enjoyed shooting anamorphic on the 6k Pro (DIY setups), with a Kowa 16-H.

Thanks !!
I am very interested in shooting anamorphic on the Pro. How do you like it ?
Do you have any photos of the kit or video footage taken with it ?

Currently experimenting with legacy Contax 28 2.8, 35 2.8, 50 1.7 (don't use it under 2.8 and rate it better than my 1.4)), and 85 2.8. I've got other high quality EF L zooms that cover this and more but like the size of the contax set, the MF smooth action, the hard infinity stop and not least the image quality.

i'm still waiting for a cage, otherwise it's very cumbersome. Shooting 2x in 3.7k Anamorphic holds up well.

That 28mm is amazing !! I have the 28 2.8, 50 1.4, 85 2.8 and 18mm f4.

Okay, I'm likely going to be getting the 6k Pro, and I can likely get one workhorse EF zoom lens right now. What do you all think would be the better investment - the Tamron 2.8 24-70mm discussed here, or the Sigma 1.8 18-35 Art lens? I know some of the pros and cons of each lens, but would love to hear about some real world opinions.

I haven't had the chance to try the Tamron yet, but heard good things. I like 24-70 but sometimes it's just not wide or tight enough depending on the shoot. I use my 24-105 a lot too since it has IS. Shot quite a lot in Antarctica with it and the range was great. But I find myself using the Canon 16-35 F4 and 70-200 F4 combo more.

Definitely check out Florent's video. It's not long and it gives a good perspective.

I have and like the Sigma 18-35, but roughly, I'd say it's a bit less useful for handheld shooting. And for sit-down interviews, I prefer a longer lens.

A 24-105 could be a decent choice if you can live with something not terribly wide. Also, it might be a lens you'd use a lot less often once you get some other lenses to cover that range and more. But as decent "just one lens" it's not so bad... If it's wide enough for you.

Not sure this helps. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing!

That list includes some popular and useful focal lengths. Surprisingly to see so many lenses at one time.

Not good unless you use the EVF option.
I find smaller lens body is easier to handle. Large body lenses with long focus throw is not suitable for handheld.

It depends on the lens and also what you mean by handheld. I have used the Sigma 18-35 handheld a lot, and it can work beautifully as is. For example I shot a surf doco on it and it worked great, especially for that kind of raw, organic footage. I have also used it on an Easy rig and gimbal and again worked very well so it really depends on the type of shooting you do :).

I had a look at the documentary, looks great. Like you say, really organic without any of those micro jitters. did you use a cage and V mount for extra weight or follow focus or just stripped down?

Hey guys,

I'm going to do medical explanation videos on YT.
For a style like Tom Scott or Veritasium, is the Canon EF 16–35 mm f/4L IS USM the one I need?

I know my stuff I wanna talk about and can slap a PC to work on together in no time, but I'm totally out of my depth in turn of camera equipment and especially lenses.

So I won't do artsy stuff, no extreme aspect ratios. Proof of concept was done in 1080p but the whole project will be done in 4K (with the PCC4K) and by the video above I'm attracted more to the Canon 16-35mm then the Sigma.

Am I on the right track, here?
