DR Studio 17.1.1 Holding GPU Memory until quit

PostSun Apr 11, 2021 3:19 pm

Hi,

I have come up against what I consider to be a bug that has been present for a while at least since the release of DR 17 until now (17.1.1).
If I do something GPU and NVRAM intensive such as using some fusion compositions/tools in a DRS edit the NVRAM usage builds up over time but never seems to release or purge if I close the project and open another without quitting DR entirely.
If I quit DR entirely the NVRAM flushes out if I do not it will remain full.
For example, I was doing some 360 reframing using the Karta VR Reframe360 Ultra fusion composition of some 8K360 video and my 11GB of NVRAM (Nvidia 1080Ti) would fill up pretty quickly during the work on a single clip. So when finished with one clip I had to render that out before moving on to work on the next clip otherwise I would get "GPU RAM full" errors. if I rendered the clip and then deleted the edit in the hope of flushing the GPU RAM it would not clear the RAM usage, nor would it if I closed the project and re-opened, the only way to flush the memory out was to close DR entirely and relaunch again.
I know I'm not the only one seeing this as it was confirmed by another use in the DR Facebook user group and its not the Karta VR Fusion composition as it does the same with the DRS stock effects too.
It happens with any material whether MP4 H264/H265, Avid DNX HR HQ, Apple ProRes 422 and any resolution but I mainly work in 1080p, 4K and 8K 360.
Hopefully, this can be looked at by the DEV team as it's really annoying, I'll be happy to provide any further information requested.

I've seen the same.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure BMD agrees this is a bug.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thanks for also confirming, How could it not be a bug? :o
it makes DR impossible to use without killing it and restarting.

Have you sent BMD tech support an email reporting this (or has anyone else)? They typically request that.

I have not, I did not know that was the bug reporting procedure but I will.

Hi all

If there are specific combinations of clips/codecs/effects/comps that you observe causing this issue, please add that info to this thread, along with diagnostic logs.

Though most of you have your signature eflective of your setup, please do include graphics card, VRAM and driver version - in case of hardware/driver updates.

And just to cover all bases, if you haven't already done so, please do a clean install of nvidia drivers - i.e. start the Nvidia installer, and use the Custom > Clean Installation option.

Thanks in advance

I have noticed this same issue with my 16" i9 MacBook Pro 64GB 5500M 8GB GPU. The GPU memory just keeps building until full and does not flush until quitting Davinci which many times does an unexpected quit. I have ordered the 2020 iMac with the 5700XT 16GB hoping this will not be an issue.

As a test, switch to another project without closing Resolve.
