Strange Glitches in Fusion

PostSun Apr 04, 2021 7:58 am

Don't know if this has been solved elsewhere (I had a quick look but couldn't see it)

Ever since using the public release of 17 my fusion page has been acting weird. (screen shot attached)

The colour goes way off and when I'm trying to do even just a simple call out, this is what's happening to the text. I've tried everything I can think of to fix this but no luck.

Any help would be awesome.

Do the colors only shift after the merge, or instantly when inside of Fusion?
You might be in a color managed mode and resolve might incorrectly convert the footage.

Completely forgot about this but YES! It's when using Davinci Wide Gamut colour managed. The only way to get my clips to show properly is to go back to a non colour managed workflow then switch back when I'm happy with the fusion results (which is never. I hate fusion)

So how can I get fusion to display the full gamut of what I want to see so I'm not wasting time changing back and forth?

Turn off your viewing LUT. It's the grid in the upper right of your viewing monitor. Once you do that, add a Gamut or LUT node right before your MediaOut node. That will let you look at the footage the right way. You can then turn it off before you go back to the timeline.

Hey Ben (Hall)

Quick question, is there a reason why you wouldn't just load the LUT into the viewer instead? Negating the need to turn the Gamut/LUT Node on or off?

It's a personal preference. I tend to get a mixture of SLog3 and Canon DSLR footage that is being edited and used Rec709 so I'll do a Gamut or LUT file close to the footage and then add text and graphics over the transformed footage. If I'm throwing stuff around and have 3 different windows open, I don't want to track yet another place where my image might be shown with or without the transform. With a node I always know what's active or not and don't have to worry about a log conversion messing with my drop shadow roll off being off because of the non linear nature of log vs the slider 0-1 linear. It just keeps the my focus on the flow and not the buttons around my image. If I'm doing a straight composite then I'll use a viewing LUT so I can do color down stream.

Hey @Ben,

So I'm trying to add a Gamut node but in the source space there's no rec709, nor is there any pocket 4k film.... so what the hell gamut am I putting?

If I hit "from image" in source space and Wide Gamut RGB (as I'm working with Davinci Wide Gamut) it doesn't look too bad. Definitely better than before but are they the best options?

Sorry man hate to be a pain in the ass. I just really don't know much fusion stuff

It's cool this stuff isn't easy not matter what it seems like from the inside. There's a lot of different knowledge trees that come together for this stuff. Send me a link to a 1 second clip of footage and I'll figure out what's going on. Resolve is still new to me so working out these kinds of issues helps me out a lot too. bentheanimator at gmail dot com.

The Rec.709 entry is listed as ITU-R BT.709. I always forget if you want the display or scene variant, though.

Only just saw this. Next time I run into this issue (I don't have to use the fusion tab for the next few edits I'm doing) I'll definitely hit you up if there are issues.

You're not wrong about different knowledge trees. It's like you finally get a good workflow happening in Resolve and then BAM, you have to go to fusion and start all over again.

At least with the next MacOS update I can finally use my EGPU as my Big Navi graphics card will be supported. So hopefully then things will process and render faster.

Nothing worse than doing something, waiting for the render then going "nope. That sucked. Let's try something else" hahaha so much wasted time!
