Linux OS going forward

With CENTOS going the way of history, we need a good and full featured Linux OS going forward.

I tried the CENTOS 7 install recommended by Black Magic recently, but it was so awful to work with - it's so bare bones that I couldn't get the other software I use easily installed and couldn't get my workflow happening.

I'd like to suggest KDE becomes the preferred desktop because it's so functional and Plasma renders beautifully.

I'd also like to suggest that KDE Neon is a good choice, followed by Kubuntu. I realise that SUSE Linux also has a KDE version, which for technical reasons may be a candidate also.

Can BM please give us some direction here. We need to know what to use going forward, and it really needs to be something good and functional - not like CENTOS was. For me, it was an absolute disaster, and I'm a serious Linux user of over fifteen years.

P.S. Given the problems some Linux distros have with NVIDIA card driver install and updates, that also needs to borne in mind.

Just for your info, the Linux version of Resolve was the original platform before Blackmagic acquired it.
It was always run as a dedicated grading platform with a full console where no other apps were installed other than input/output hardware and software. I do agree that it's time for a serious refresh for Linux users.

That is true, but my memory was that we used Red Hat Linux with old daVinci 2K. Great, solid OS. And it's also recommended by BMD in the Resolve Linux specs.

CENTOS 7 (old version) is recommended. It's the community version behind Red Hat. RHL has however announced it is decoupling from CENTOS. CENTOS is primarily used as a server. The desktop implementation is extremely limited because they have no thought about how a desktop should function or standard packages to help get one going properly.

KDE NEON on the other hand is based on the current Ubuntu LTS version and then implements best practice KDE desktop on that. Seeing KDE is a desktop project, it's a good bet they do it well... and they REALLY DO!

I would be prepared to adopt a Gnome desktop is necessary, but after over 15 years of Linux usage, I believe KDE is more functional.

At this point, with Resolve being used more widely, BM can't afford to lock up a single desktop as a Resolve appliance. It has to accommodate other software like K3B, Inkscape, Gnome, Darktable and Libre Office. That's why CENTOS is such a poor choice.

I therefore would really like to see KDE Neon as the new recommended desktop.
