Project Backups

PostTue Jun 01, 2021 11:21 am

Is Project Backups the same as Export Project and or Save Project as?
I've been wondering this for 2 years, no answer in the manual nor this forum.

They are all different functions. Each of these is detailed in the Resolve 17 Reference guide.

Although I do appreciate your reply, the guide absolutely does not tell me the difference between them. I have read it before posting on here.

They really should tell us the difference as one is always scared something might be missing if done one way or the other in a professional environment where big money is at stake. So for example if you then
tell me "then why don't you just chose 'automatic backups'" .... my reply would be, how do I know if "save project as" or "export project" is better or the same...?

I really want to know as I can't stand the automatic feature, Davinci editor struggles with LARGE projects especially sitting with clients.

cheers

Export saves your project file to any folder you like (usually for backup or archive, or when you want to share the project), while "save as", saves your project under a different name (like version 2 or whatever you like) in the data base.

The functions you are asking about are not really comparable because they serve completely different purposes.
Project Backups are AUTOMATIC backups from within the database structure to a backup location designed to save you from a crash or other disaster. Project Exports are MANUAL EXPORTS for moving to another computer or safety backup for archiving with the media or saving a project OUTSIDE of the database. Save as... is for taking the current project and saving as a new project with new name WITHIN THE CURRENT DATABASE.
I hope this is clearer.
Even though you may not have found the info, it is all in the Resolve Reference Manual.

Thanks Peter. Yeah, I read that in the manual but it doesn't distinguish between the three different types. But you did. Thanks very much makes perfect sense. I had an idea but really needed 100% certainty. :)
