Update only after previous deinstallation?

Is it really necessary when updating e.g. 17.2. on 17.2.1 to uninstall version 17.2 with all features beforehand, restart the PC and then get a clean installation of 17.2.1?
At least when updating from 17.1. I had to do this on 17.1.1. Because 17.1.1 caused freezes or crashes more often! Only after the described process did everything go smoothly!

Since my 17.2 is working great on my PC at the moment, I am very in doubt whether I should carry out the update and rather "make it worse" ...
