cut page sync bin clips not syncing

PostWed Apr 07, 2021 5:55 pm

i have 3 gopro cameras imported in resolve, in 3 folders, all recorded with a proper timecode, and all clips labeled as cam 1, 2 and 3. I was taking a look at the sync bin, and selected all clips -> pressed the sync button at the top -> sync window came up. I pressed the sync(timecode) button but all clips just stayed out of sync, they were not overlapping like you would expect in the traditional multicam workflow. I tried it a few times, but i'm kind of stuck here as there aren't much options to choose from

I tested the clips with the traditional multicam workflow, and it worked over there, so it's not a problem with the timecode. but i'm eager to learn, so i don't want to give up so easily.

What could be wrong?

I just ran across this myself.

The cause for me was that the creation date of one of my clips was significantly out. Unlike 'Create New Multicam Clip...' from the Media page, 'Sync Clips' from the Cut page seems to use the clips' creation date in addition to the timecode. I had one timecoded recorder that was accidentally out by one year, and this was causing the problem. I used EditReady to re-encode the offending clip with the correct year and everything started working.

If your GoPros are like mine, then you might be experiencing regular and significant clock drift. Mine drift by hours or even days in the space of a week or two. I don't know how far they have to drift before they become unsyncable in the Cut Page, but I have seen this when trying to sync GoPros before. That said, this time the problem was that I had set the date wrong on one of the recorders.

I've sent Blackmagic support a bug report, so hopefully they'll fix it:

Steps to reproduce:

1 - Clips from multiple cameras with synced timecodes.
2 - At least one of those clips has a creation date that is significantly different from the others (in my case, the year was out by one on one of my clips - camera A was accidentally set to June 7th 2020, all the rest were June 7th 2021).
3 - Put all the clips in a bin together, open them in the cut page and click 'Sync Clips'
4 - The clip(s) with the bad creation date will refuse to sync by timecode. You also cannot unlock the sync to manually move them together. You *can* use waveforms to sync them, but this defeats the purpose of having the timecode.

Expected behaviour:

This does *not* happen when using 'Create New Multicam Clip...' in the Media page-'Date Created' is not treated as a factor. Cut Page > Sync Clips should behave in exactly the same way.

I too am having the same issue. I have synced the timecodes with the gopro labs QR code to 1000th of a second but I am still getting about 1.x sec difference when I try to use the 'Sync Bin' on the top of the cut page (unsure if this is the same as the sync button people are referring to).

Hopefully looking for a fix.
