Recent Projects List

PostFri Sep 10, 2021 7:46 pm

I would like to see a recent projects lists when I first open Resolve as well as when I launch the project viewer.

I like to organize my projects into sub folders, but every time I open Resolve it takes me to the root folder forcing me to navigate to whatever project I worked on last.

Other video editors offer a recent project list in their software. In the case of Resolve it could provide a way to see the entire project list as a flat list sorted by date/time modified.

Does this not suffice?

Preferences>User>UI Settings>Reload last working project when logging in

You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Reloading the last working project isn't always desired. Perhaps I want to work on the second last project I worked on or something that I worked on recently that might be further down the list.

From an implementation stand point this feature is really viewing all projects, in a flat view regardless of folder, sorted by date last modified.

And regardless of database too, maybe.

I could see another (optional) pane at the top or side of the Project Manager. It would show the last 5 or X (configurable) projects opened on this system. It would have an extra column for "Database", allowing projects from different databases to appear in a single flat list. Other columns would be the same as usual. It would be sorted by Last Modified descending. Or Last Accessed descending, if that metadata is available.

I wouldn't think this would be too hard to implement. The data for which projects were opened most recently could be stored in a local config file - probably in the same place it currently stores the last project opened.

Not something that's important to me but it's a standard UI feature in most software and I can see it being valuable to people who jump between projects a lot.

That kind of defeats the point of the folders, doesn't it? I mean, you can get there now by not using folders.

Yeah, and there is tons of room next to the "Projects" word on top of the windows, to add a button or a clickable text like "Recent projects"

I use this function all the time with Photoshop to open my recent projects.

+ 1 from me, I constantly try to reach a "recent" list but it seems it's not there - yet...

Very useful for those who keep their projects organized in subfolders.

I recently switched over to using folders for my projects, which in itself is great, but an (optional) way to display the most recent projects - as is possible in almost every other software known to man - would be most welcome.

Having a "Recent Projects" list (not just the current setting that always opens the last project, which I may not want) would provide time savings of 15 to 30 seconds every time I open a Resolve project, which is many times per day. I have multiple projects carefully organized into folders that extend down sometimes five or more levels, and having to repeatedly drill down to open a project that I recently worked on is not only annoying (considering that I have access to Recent Projects in almost every other piece of software that I own), that time ultimately costs your users money. We'd really, really appreciate a Recent Projects list easily available when we start up Resolve.

Directly related to this, in Windows, right-clicking apps pinned to the Taskbar shows recently worked-on items, as well. But for Resolve, there are no recent items there. This, too, would be an easily accessible and normal way to access recent projects.

Thanks,

Bruce

+1 But at the same time keep the "Sort by (data, name)" and a big thumbnail, which is faster than read the individual names.

I work on multiple projects organized in different folders at the same time, so it would be nice to have a recent projects folder.
