GEN 5 - 4

PostFri Nov 26, 2021 3:19 pm

I own a 6k bmpck and I am thinking of buying the pro version. The only thing that doesn't allow me to make a final decision is that I don't like the colors of the GEN 5 on the film mode, that comes with the pro. I prefer gen 4. My question: Is it possible once I buy the new camera to do like a "downgrade" and install gen 4 on the pro ????

I am the same as you, I much prefer Gen 4 of my 6K over Gen 5 on the Pro. What I do is shoot RAW on the Pro and then in Davinci you can revert to Gen 4 :). A small extra step but works well for me.

GEN 5 - 4

If you prefer you can build a LUT that change your gen5 in gen4, or better, in resolve setup preference of camera raw to develop default braw like gen4 color science. I did the opposite be cause I prefer gen5 to develop all my cameras from Ursa Mini Pro g1 to p4k to p6k
That mean every time I read a braw in resolve it develop it ever like gen5.

yes, the currently manufactured ones are shipped with the latest firmware.
and as some have already discovered with the 4k, there is no going back.

The colour is the same from Gen 4 -> Gen 5. Its really just a gamma curve difference (which makes all cameras/ISOs the same) which you can compensate for with your own curve or use the CST plugin to change the gamma curve.

Is the CST plugin in Resolve only or are their 3rd party ones I could purchase for Final Cut Pro X, Premiere etc?
