How can I import marker with color?

PostWed Jan 26, 2022 10:23 am

I'm currently trying to import xml file for Premiere Pro.

Everything is fine except marker color.

In XML file, there is <pproColor> tag.. but it didn't work (of course it's for premiere pro)

Is there some color xml tag for DaVinci Resolve?

Moving projects between NLEs is a world of pain. You are lucky if you can just get a timeline across without faults.
I’m not at my machine right now, but why don’t you try to do an export with some markers from DR? After all, XMLs are pretty much human readable and doing a simple search and replace might work. Some scripting might be better if you need to do this regularly.
The best solution might be to convince others to use DR too.

I tried a test, from Resolve 17.4.3 on a Mac, under the Deliver Page, under XML Premiere, there is no check box for Markers, but other formats such as Custom, Prores have an option to add chapters or markers.
When I opened it in Adobe Premiere 2022, no sign of markers.

But I read further on, there is a another option for EDL, edit decision list.
Plenty of support for FCP but not for Premiere I still have not giving up on that search, If I find the answer, hope fully It doesn't need to be a future feature.

Here is where from Resolve you can export > Timeline, and you get a window and choose the different option.

EDLs are an older standard with good compatibility, but very limited information. No markers at all, with or without color.

You can have someone write a script that translates the Premiere XML markers to Resolve EDL marker format and then import markers from EDL. By "script" I don't mean a BMD API script, but just a script that parses the XML and pulls the info. There would be some timecode calculations involved.

EDLs can contain color markers just fine.

As far as I have seen they are usually conveyed through LOC tag followed by timecode and color name. Which specific EDL spec it is I don't know exactly. I used them for exchange between Hiero and Scratch pretty extencively in one big project, to allow all kinds of tagging and whatnot on Scratch side, based on these color markers.

Right click a timeline, export -> timeline markers to edl
You'll see the color notation in the event comments. It's not really a standard EDL format, just something Resolve uses.

Oh, OK, got it. But then you may need to script your own parsing.

And this is what I get when I try:
