Hi Guys

Clip of a small Irish town that decorates very well for Christmas. Shot with the old BMPC4k in raw, pushed it a lot and kept it warm as much I could. Used the 2x Hypergonar and a 0.5 diopter, with a 58mm Helios and an 85mm Zeiss. Slow pace so make a cup of tea first - ps it is not shot in official ratios lol so be warned. Merry Christmas!

Of everything I worked on in 2021, this was the most work and the most fun.
It was a treat to get to spend a day filming color scientist Joseph Slomka and colorist Alastor Arnold of Fotokem.
A series of their amazing interviews are coming in 2022.
For now, we’ve released a teaser:

Shot on Ursa Mini Pro 12K and 6K Pocket Pro cameras in BRAW with SLR Magic APO Microprimes.
Then we cut + graded in Resolve using a remote proxy workflow through Postlab Drive.

Hi,

I've been using my Ursa Mini for so long, and recently I decided to buy a pocket cinema camera just to have a smaller rig for different projects. I bought the original pocket and decided to give it a try.

I finally understand why this camera changed the indie filmmaking world. It's mindblowing. The look is instantly cinematic and the image has an undeniable charm to it. I'm trying to find some good value Cooke Kinetals to use with it. In my head, they should be a match made in heaven.

I shot two test videos with my new pocket. Let me know which one you like best:

Forest -

Beach -

Thanks!

These are great; I like the beach one best. There's some rolling shutter but not a big deal; it's more distracting in the forest video. What lens(es) did you use, and I'd also like to know what you used for stabilization?

Thanks Brad. Yeah, rolling shutter is an issue, but the texture and colours are lovely with this camera. I'm using my Zeiss ZF.2 lenses that I usually use with my Ursa Mini (in both these videos I used the 21mm Zeiss). For stabilization I used the Crane 3s. Gotta get me a Feelworld T7 to get better focus while in the gimbal.

Cool, thanks. I think those Zeiss ZF.2 lenses are a good match for this camera; I have the ZF.2 Distagon 35mm/1.4 and it's gorgeous on this sensor; it reminds me of the old Super 16 Superspeeds.

Both look lovely. Did you record in cDNG or ProRes? What color transforms did you use in post? My guess is Dehancer, but I would love to be wrong and hear about something new/different : )

Hi, thanks. I'm using Resolve 17 new halation and film grain OFX. They are amazing and probably better than Dehancer.

Cheers

In the comments on youtube under the beach video, you also noted that you used one of the Kodak film emulation LUTs in Resolve, is that right?

And did you shoot in Prores or was this CDNG raw?

Hi, yes, the LUT I used was one of Kodak LUTS that comes with Resolve. I shot in Prores.

Mark,
Nice! Looks like to be a great horror film. A thing about the classic horror was that one could be scared and know it was unlikely to be real. I would wish your film would be a hilarious fiction, but this can be all too close to reality.

Edit: Best of luck to scaring the beejeebbers out of everyone.

Shot this music video with the URSA Mini Pro G2 and the DZOFilm Pictor Zooms (PL) end of November. Shot in 2.4:1 4.6K BRAW 8:1 at 24 FPS. Lighting was a single Nanlite Forza 300 with a soft-box since I wasn’t aware we’d need lights as I was told we’d be shooting at the beach. Luckily I did have the Forza in the car just in case. Only used the light at night at the bar. The video came out great!

Thank you Walter and Richard! And, I agree we need likes on this forum because I had another video release today...

Had the pleasure of shooting this incredible story a few months back. We had two cameras; the URSA Mini Pro and the Pocket 6K Pro, and used the DZOFilm Lenses (Vespid Primes on UMP and Pictor Zooms on P6K) and lit using the Nanlite Forza lights and Dracast LED Panels. It's a really powerful and inspiring story.

Got some more videos releasing today. I'll share my Vimeo links because "best quality" from them. Plus no YouTube ads.

Latest video for Victoria Hampton and her Magazine Spread for FHM and Stephen Hirschthal doing her photos. Shot on URSA Mini Pro G2, DZOFilm Pictor Zooms and Vespid Primes, and edited & graded in DaVinci Resolve 17. Lighting was Nanlite Forza and MixPanel lights. Shot at Greg Burns Studio and Lido Key Beach in Sarasota, FL!

Next up a Valentines Day Video for Candice (@blonde_n_country). Shot on the UMPG2 and DZOFilm Vespid Primes. Lighting was Nanlite Forza and MixPanel lights. Shot in Sarasota, FL. DaVinci Resolve 17 used for editing and grading.

Enjoy!

Thank you! Wait till you see the next one coming up. Shot all at the beach, but I used my new Syrp Slider that replaced my old slider. Some amazing shots and a wonderful young model that I can't wait to work with again. And, she's an actress as well, so I am inspired to want to write a role for her because she was a blast to work with.

Yes, the Valentine's Day one was a blast. Played with the fire/candlelight effect on thee Nanlite lights. Really wish I had more time to do some more Valentine's Day content this year. I want to do the flower milk bath again, rose pedal bed, and other themes again. Just a challenge to find the time that works with the models and my time. Most of them are all "Trade for Print" so no one is being paid. But they are fun for the creative collaborations.

I'll share the new beach one soon. Video is done, I just am waiting for the permission to release as it's going to be coinciding with something the model wants to do.

All panning and tilting. No Ken Burns type of cropping. Sachtler FSB-8 tripod head on the Flowtech legs. I’m interested in updating to the new Aktiv head, especially for faster changes to the slider. But, am trying to avoid spending the money since it’s a big upgrade just to save a minute or two.

Haha! Yeah, my buddy Dillon handles the knots. I’m not exactly a Boy Scout, so I never really properly learned knots. That’s why I’m not always the best grip.

Very nice Jukka. I really like how the visual story flowed. By the way, what kind of waterproof casing did you use to shoot the swimming scene, especially for the frames at 0:30 in (partial underwater)?

Thanks Adam and Ellory.

I used a cheap Dicapac WP-S10 waterproof bag. P6K Pro and Zeiss ZF.2 25mm 2.8. The bag has a finger sleeve next to the lens with touch sensitivity equivalent of a silicone oven mitt, so having a lens focus gear helped a lot :)

Nice. That's a cheap and good way to protect your cam. I'm glad it fit the P6K Pro and lens nicely. I have an upcoming shoot that will record a medium to close shot of the actor swimming in the water with all that splashing. I'm going to check this out instead of the expensive Ewa-Marine ( https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... magic.html ) which looks similar to the Dicapac. And since it's more at the water level shot, I won't need something that does deeper that 2-3' under water.

EDIT: So I read the reviews on B&H for the Dicapac and made me think again if the savings is even worth the risk. I hate to be penny wise pound foolish if it has quality issues that can potential cause the camera to fail. The Ewa-Marine is a better insurance then.

Didn't shoot this, nor did we use a Blackmagic Cam for this but I Wrote/Directed/Produced this feature...

We shot on a RED Scarlet back in 2016. After looooooong legal issues that prevented the sale, we're releasing it on Youtube this Friday. Here's the trailer and I'll post the link to the film on Friday.

Hi Jukka

Really good production value showing what a good eye and the P6K can do.

May I ask what language is spoken on the videos?

Condolences on having to shoot on a RED. :D
The storyline and movie looks like it deserves attention.

I hope that it works out for you.

So painful. Care to comment on the nature of the legal issue so we don’t repeat it?

Can't go into details but just make sure the paperwork for clearances is correct. A check of the wrong box cost us 30k and whatever would have been made after.

Thanks man, appreciate it.

would have been a shame to let it sit.

It's definitely a dark film that could turn people off but the cast and crew were great and worked very hard on it so at least people get to see their work.

Thanks Jukka. Very beautiful language. I do not think that I have heard it spoken before.

I am sorry to hear that you feel so strongly about it. :o
I am sure that you will find a new language to start.

Hey guys,
Here is a collection of moments from a weekend in Biarritz.
Video Link :

A beautiful part of France that I always wanted to explore and capture.
This was also our first holiday as a family.

Shot handheld on the BMPCC6K Pro.

Let me know if you have any questions :).

Cheers,
Flo
