BMD have had the largest stand at NAB for at least the last 5 years

I'd argue that they've been on the front-foot for that whole time, but I think it's appropriate. After all, they've released a stunning number of new products and huge upgrades to existing products during that time.
It's also worth mentioning that PR isn't bad when it's backed up by substance, which is definitely the case here.

Here is my prediction for a new BlackMagic Camera at NAB. It will be a box form factor with a multi-format 8K Vista Vision plus an S35 sensor with the highest DR, possibly with a PL mount. It will be priced around $2500. I have no insider info.

Yes, bump. Cube design and affordable global shutter (especially the latter) in Full Frame (as well as also still having Super35 formats for people with tighter budgets, especially for lenses) are musts for BMD to stay ahead of the competitive curve.

I know I’m going to be on pins and needles this weekend waiting to see if there’s anything else released for NAB. I know the new DZOFilm Pictor Zoom is announcing on the 24th. Plus a new Aputure light. So, maybe the 24th is it.

Since B&H leaked it early 14-30mm T2.8, and there will be a new three lens case and three lens kit.

I knew about it in advance. There's also Vespid 21mm and 40mm in the works. No idea when those will release however.

They also just released the Koop rear magnetic filters. My only concern about using the rear filters is that it changes the flange distance so you need to re-shim the lenses if you're going to use them. This may lead to needing to use circular or rectangular filters in front of the lens as it does mean less work with re-shimming the lenses.

Either way, I'm excited for all the new products coming out. Even without a new Blackmagic Camera I'll have plenty of gear to put me in debt for a while. Haha. My credit cards are going to be a hurting. But always a good excuse to increase the rates by having new gear to charge for.

Not sure how I feel about a 14-30. With the slight vignetting I'm seeing on my 20-55, I imagine it will only be worse nearer to that 14mm. I wish they'd release a 25-200mm. Geez that would be amazing. Totally killing their other Pictor, so don't see it happening.

With any rear mounted filters on a lens, typical best practice is to shim the lens itself with a CLEAR filter.

Then it should conform to your cameras mount shim, and as long as you have a clear OR whatever other filter in there, it will always be shimmed.

Shimming the mount would be a bit silly because then every other lens would be out...

Perhaps the firmware wizards were busy with the Blackmagic Cloud Store/Pod hardware as it runs Blackmagic OS.

And there might still be supply chain issues. Where are the big news from other camera manufacturers?
I mean, something you can really buy now. BM seems to have shifted priorities for this NAB, and I think they are right. Online collaboration is here to stay, even after the pandemic.

What’s the catch with an old product banner with a lower price? That suggest to me they’re not selling enough of it. If it’s a firmware upgrade, waiting to push it at NAB is not interesting. Either there is something more or the 12K needs more marketing even with the price drop which has been out there for many moons. Everyone who is a Cine pro or buff already know about it.. no secret there.

Adding cloud features to the URSA, not interesting at all to take my money. It could be a free firmware upgrade to 12K owners.

The show opens at 10am today Pacific Time. So shortly after that we should hear something. If not, then we'll most likely have to wait til June. As we all all aware, everyone is having an electronic components shortage, even Sony has the next batch of FX3 cameras estimated for June delivery. Like John Brawley said, BMD has made it a habit lately to only announce new cameras when they are ready to ship. With their early camera announcements, it used to take months to ship after unveiling.

Besides cameras, what I was hoping BMD to announce was a Speed Color Control Panel at $395 to complement the speed editor. Since Resolve 18 and Hyperdeck controller was already announced, then I take NO speed color control panel anymore.

I also waited for the Resolve family announcement to see if there would be a new colour panel, and I would have liked something a bit smaller than the Micro panel, but once that announcement happened without any new panel I have ordered a Micro Panel. I was told that the Australian suppler was waiting on units from the manufacturer who was waiting on parts, but I got told that it would only be a couple of weeks, and so perhaps 3-4 weeks to get to my door.

I noticed that new ATEM units have supplanted Resolve as being the lead item on BM website, not sure if that's an announcement separate to others, but would it be strange that the Resolve family would get announced beforehand and then get nothing announced at the actual show? I have no idea, but I did think that JBs post about the 10 year anniversary was about as big a hint that someone could give without actually saying anything beyond their NDA, so I still take it as a sign

The only thing I really was in need of was a replacement URSA Viewfinder since the power cable wire is starting to get lose and funky. So I didn't want to replace it in case something new was announced that solved a lot of the issues I have with the URSA Viewfinder design.

Otherwise, as long as my UMPG2 works I'm happy to keep shooting with it. No issue waiting for the next generation 12K with all the body improvements I want to see.

And, I don't care about box-style camera still. But I'll take an updated URSA Mini Pro and and URSA Micro "Box" together. Auofocus is something I won't hold my breath for. My autofocus is my AC pulling focus for me wirelessly.

2018 for the Pocket 4K. So 4-years. Here's to looking for future announcements later in the year.

Very solid, clear and sharp and an essential compliment IMV for the Ursa body. The cables are the only fragile looking bit that could be improved. But I imagine there will be a new VF along with a whole new 'Ursa' someday soon, but I doubt tomorrow. Though a pure guess and once again I risk foolishness with such brash predictions.

Yeah, my main thing is desiring versatility in positioning. The Wooden Camera mod from a few years back was a good idea, but I never took advantage of it and they don't do it anymore. I love the Viewfinder otherwise. But yes, those power and SDI cables are the weakest parts. Took nearly 5 years for my power cable to start coming out of the housing.

Maybe if I can send this one in for modification with Wooden Camera I would.

Yes that is very ancient - I had to dig for such a cable. The old JVC GY-HD101 I have still on the rack had a terrible plasticky viewfinder but had one great feature that would be welcome on a new BMD one - you could extend the eyepiece with a small tube a la cine VFs - an extension tube would offer a lot of flexibility for film shooting.

This is so sad that there is no new camera announcement. I blame John Brawley for getting us excited with his cryptic anniversary post.

Blackmagic made the front page and page 2 with the URSA Mini Pro 12K. Blackmagic advertises it's $5,995 price, unlike Canon, which doesn't disclose the $22,000 price of their CR-X500 4K PTZ camera announcement on page 9.

The Blackmagic Web Presenter is on page 4. The URSA Broadcast G2 is on page 20.

Well they may not have announced a new camera but there are new hardware products and new software capabilities.

I’ve been reading the Resolve 18 manual which is a complete redesign with much more helpful information. Appreciate those changes which go beyond just supporting the new emphasis on tools and techniques for project collaboration.

If only that would reduce the volume of questions in the Resolve forum, then it’s an enhancement worth having. Sorry I didn’t see a “New” section though for a quick peek at all the new features. I’m reading it because way over 95% applies to Resolve 17 anyway and it does make 100% of the material seem clearer than the previous approach to the manuals I’ve seen since Resolve 8.

Avid still owns the high end edit field. Adobe has tried for years to take that away. Hasn’t happened. Avid and Resolve play well together so I don’t see any reason for post houses to change it up…..I’m talking high end, not basement editing….

Although, the new Cloud editing services in Resolve 18 and Blackmagic Cloud could actually shake things up. The end of an era for Avid could be coming. Adobe didn't have a shot, but Blackmagic could with Resolve. Especially since Resolve is already the go to for color grading.

Granted Avid as NLE, Nuke for VFX Compositing, and Pro Tools for Audio is the standard that will take time to move away from. But DaVinci Resolve has all those tools inside, and you never have to switch software. Seamless post production is a pipe dream.

Anyone heard of Bosma and their 8K Cine cameras? Sound to me like another Kraft camera … lots of hot air and promises, not sure if it will even work.

This is the first comming out party at NAB for 3 years and Grant would want an audience and press gather at his meet once again so if no new cameras it feels kind of dull. I know recent trend is announce a product that is available, this does not prevent them from making a developmental announcement. Even a prototype.
