Disable Clip LUT on Color Page

PostWed Aug 10, 2022 2:53 pm

I'm editing footage on the edit page. All of the clips have a show LUT applied to each clip in the Media Pool.

When I switch to the Color page, I don't want to see the LUT. Is there a way to turn it off?

Select all the clips, right click>LUT>No LUT selected.

It already says that.

Here's what I see on the clips in the Media Pool.

Those two images are the same clip?

Testing in Studio 18.0.1, the LUT selection shows the same for me on both pages. Changing it on one changes it on the other.

If you're talking about that icon, that's the proxy icon, not a LUT icon.

Different clip, but they all have the same LUT applied in the Media Pool. So when I cut the clip into a timeline, I see the clip with the LUT applied.

When I go to the Color page, I would like to see that same clip with no LUT. Make sense?

Not sure this is possible.

I guess I'm confused. Why do you think there is a LUT applied to clips on the Media page?

Is it auto colour managed, rather than a lut? If so right click clip and bypass colour management (or disable in project settings).

Because it shows the “Pine” LUT is selected on the Media page.

Good Luck

Select all the clips on the Media Page and choose "No LUT Selected" to turn off. This is the only way I know of as the LUT is applied before the Color Page.

Here's the reason why I ask this:

In Resolve 18, you can have a cloud-based project where the colorist could be working on a reel of your movie while the editor is working on another reel of your movie.

The editor wants to look at the footage with a viewing LUT applied to the footage so that everything doesn't look all washed out in log. So, in the Media Pool, a LUT is applied to all of the clips.

The colorist, however, wants to start with the log footage. He might apply the show LUT in a node, but more than likely, he's starting from scratch with the log footage.

From what I can tell, there is no way to disable the LUT applied to clips in the Media Pool.

This is HIGHLY problematic if the intention is to have a seamless collaboration between editor and colorist.

The feature request would be: "Disable/Bypass Media Pool LUTs" button on the Color page so that the editor can still work with the LUT-applied footage, and the colorist can see the footage in log with no LUT applied.

Using a Resolve Colour Managed workflow will allow you to ignore LUTs and use the Resolve built-in transforms. These transforms then become the starting point for a final grade. there is no need to disable anything or make any changes for each part of the process. The Resolve transforms are much better quality than using a LUT.

Peter, would you mind explaining to me how this workflow would work?

I could use a color-manged project and apply an input LUT in the project settings. But that LUT still can't be bypassed on the color page.
