Deity V-Mic D3 Pro Mic Problem with 6K Pro

PostFri Aug 12, 2022 1:05 am

I have a BMCC 6K Pro and a Deity-Mic D3 Pro. I've attempted to connect them with several 3.5mm cable options. I started with the 3.5 cable included with the Deity. That didn't work. Then I tried a MOVO MC1 3.5mm TRS cable and that didn't work. Then on this forum someone was having the same problem and said to try the Rode 3.5mm TRS cable. That worked for that user. So, I tried this cable, but it didn't work for me.

The 6K Pro is on. The 3.5 selection is selected in the 6K Pro menu and turned up. The Deity is on and fully charged. The Deity yellow standby light is on. With the camera connected and turned on the Deity light should turn to green. But it stays yellow and when I test the Deity it shows no audio is being received. When I test the internal audio in the 6K Pro it works fine. I wrote Deity support recently and have not heard back from them.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Yes, the Deity comes with a TRRS cable (Tip - Ring - Ring - Sleeve).
From Rode you can get an adapter cable TRRS to TRS: Rode SC3

But the compatibility list from Deity says you will need a third party TRS cable:
https://shop.deitymic.com/pages/camera- ... ility-list

Which Rode cable did you buy? The Rode Mikrofone SC2?
The Movo MC1 cable should also work.

So when you tried the TRS to TRS cable - what exactly did you set your camera inputs to?
There are several options - and the only working option will be to set the camera input to 3.5mm MIC
(try left or right). If you set the input to 3.5m LINE, it won't work because this is for a very different audio level then from a mic.

Thanks for your help!

The Rode cable I purchased was the SC2 3.5mm TRS patch cable for iPhone.

I checked my audio settings options in the 6K Pro. The 3.5mm Line options are available and currently selected. The 3.5mm Mic options are greyed out and not available for selection. It appears this may be part of the problem.

So, if the 3.5mm Mic options are greyed out and not available for selection, what is causing this and what needs to be done to enable 3.5mm Mic options for selection? Any suggestions?

Thanks again!

I've just tested this with one of my PCC4ks and firmware 7.9.1:

If one of the channels is already set to 3.5 mm LINE you can't set the other to MIC. Which is logical as the same input can either be LINE or MIC but not both at the same time.

So first unplug the Deity mic from the camera.

Set both of your channels back to
Channel 1 -> Camera Left
Channel 2 -> Camera Right

Set Channel 1 -> 3.5 mm Left Mic

Plugin the TRS cable from the mic into the camera and switch on the Deity.
You should now get a level on the left channel.

Oh, and make sure you are connecting your cable to the upper 3.5mm mic input and not accidentally to the headphone output!

BTW: Just saw that my Rode VideoMic NTG also does use a TRRS to TRRS cable which works perfectly fine with both my PCC4Ks. It is the Rode SC10. Although there are no guarantees that this will work with the Deity too.

That seems to have done it. Very tricky! Thanks!

One related question. Do you think it would be worth it to attempt to use a TRS to Mini XLR adapter as an alternative? What do you think?

Thanks again for your help!

No, you'd just trade in a more clunky approach.
