DaVinci Resolve 18 studio deinterlace

PostSat Sep 24, 2022 4:00 am

Since I upgraded to 18.0.3 studio, the deinterlace button is not there and 1080i looks awful. It worked in 18.0.2 Any help?

I found this about using the upper field in field dominance and it greatly helped with the deinterlacing.

I just want to say I have the exactly same problem. In the Manual is the official way to deinterlace only through the check box and it is not there.

I just finished grading 50i film for TV and I need to convert it also to progressive. What should I do? Use another software? It is not possible to downgrade with the project, I will need to export 50i DNxHR, downgrade, deinterlace the exported video and upgrade again so I can work. This sounds like Adobe Premiere. I don't want to do such funky stuff.

In the Inspector, under Retime and Scaling, there is Deinterlace quality.
In Project Settings, Image Scaling has the same settings.

The project settings and Scaling settings are applied when the deinterlace option is toggled "on" in the clip attribute settings. If not (or toggled off), those are not affecting anything. You can find this on page 411.
In the current DVR 18 version, this deinterlace toggle has disappeared. It is still listed in the last manual version but it is not showing in the clip attribute settings.

The Enable Deinterlace button went away in Resolve 17. It's automatically detected and selected now.

Deinterlace quality is set on a project basis in Project Settings - Image Scaling - Deinterlace Quality.

It can be adjusted on a clip basis using the Edit page Inspector - Retime and Scaling area.

If it looks terrible, perhaps the auto field detect got it wrong, and you can try the other field to see if it looks better. Or change the quality from Normal to High and see if that helps.

I can see the "Deinterlace quality" setting in the Project Settings panel but I cannot find any sort of adjustment in the "Retime and Scaling" section from the Inspector panel.

Your timeline setting must be set to progressive (Enable Interlaced Processing = unchecked).
Then there is in the clip inspector under "Retime and Scaling" a drop down menu for Deinterlace Quality
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

It's worth noting that, if you're using Clip Attributes to rotate clips for verticlal resolution timelines, de-interlacing won't work. You need to rotate on the timeline.
