How to embed compressed audio in SDI?

PostThu Sep 29, 2022 4:59 pm

Hello, I have DeckLink 8K Pro and trying to develop a simple playout software to play videos over SDI, all is good except the compressed audio. Anyone can tell me if it is possible to embed compressed audio? In the SDK I see only pcml.

Thank you in advance.

PCM audio is the SDI standard. I don't think compressed audio is supported in an embedded SDI signal.

NON-PCM audio has been standardized for more than 10 years. DOLBY DIGITAL and DOLBY E are standardized.
AES is used to deliver DOLBY E.

They may have been standardised but they are both very old and mostly deprecated. Dolby digital is a no go, according to this reply from BMD themselves: https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=52349 but there is a user there who used Dolby E. Careful with monitoring if you get it to work since it's encoded at full level and will blow speakers, if undecoded. Only the UltraStudio 4K Extreme 3 has AES, according to the specs, there is no mention of it in the DeckLink 8K Pro specs.
