Samsung 840 EVO Series SSD 1TB

Anyone tried one of these yet on BMCC ?

Seems like you could end up losing a lot of footage that way. If the drive fails you'd lose hours of work. It might be good as an external drive for editing purposes though. I'd like to know if anyone has used it for such a purpose and how well it works for post production.

I have a 500gb drive and will be buying another one shortly.

The drive seems to be working fine for me so far, but beware that it is 7mm thick (as opposed to the traditional 9.5mm). This means your drive will wobble around in the camera.

My workaround for this was to head down to the local glass shop and ask for a piece of 3mm scrap plexiglass. They gave me a 6"x12" piece for free, I cut it to size and used some industrial strength double sided tape to adhere it to the drive; problem solved!

Thanks for reply,one drive like this could be
used for both edit and filmming straight from camera to SSD dock,it will cover day shoot easily,I am just bit hesitant to spend that money before it is confirmed that will not cause dropped frames.

If you want to wait until the weekend I will be doing some more shots on Friday & Saturday and I can give you some more solid feedback. I just got my camera this past Friday, so I haven't had a chance to get out with it yet, but the test shots I've done around the house have been ok.

Sorry for the delay, I had a whirlwind of a weekend and ended up shooting about 3TB of footage after a couple last minute gigs popped up.

The card seems to be performing fine. No dropped frames that I could see and no heat issues, even with my plexiglass spacer attached. I shot a few 2.5k/24 clips that were upwards of 20 minutes each problem free.

EDIT: I would like to append this to say that after about 10tb of data has been written to the card, I have started to experience dropped frames (Long term degradation? Who knows...). I would no longer recommend these drives until I can figure out what the issue is.

Thanks for the March 7, 2014 update.
Are you formatting the ssd drive before every film shoot or did you just format the ssd one time?
What size is your Samsung Evo (500gb, 750gb, or 1tb)?
