DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K pre-purchase questions

PostThu Nov 24, 2022 1:40 pm

I am considering buying a DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K to replace my Intensity Pro 4K card as I need to work with a 4K DCI timeline. However, I have a couple of questions and would be grateful for some advice from existing users.

Is the DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K compatible with After Effects? It's not listed on the Blackmagic website.

Can the DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K convert a 4K DCI timeline output for display on a 1080 monitor?

Thanks :-)

It can't scale from 4K, UHD.
You can always set Resolve to send just HD to your monitor.
No idea about After Effects- whole support was always iffy.

It works for me in AE with the UltraStudio Monitor 3G, can't say for the 4K:

My desaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

you often have to play with the Scale Up and Scale down setting for "unsupported" frame sixes, as there is no rhyme reason or consistency in whether it will work or not. But I think I have used even the old HD extreme with a uhd comp.

You may need the 4k Extreme if you want the card to do any scaling and the mini monitor 4k is YUV / 422 only and After effects is native RGB. Not really an issue though, but if you are specifically needing a DCI format you may need RGB depending on what you are doing.

My 4k extreme recently stopped down ressing in RGB though in any app I have to use 422 to get preview out of SDI2.
This is an issue as if you work in a 4k timeline but have HD pipeline for eg scopes or other converters / monitors, then the decklink has to be set to 422. I send audio to a multibridge eclipse to convert to AES. I have original ultrascope card. They need 3g hd.

Lots of AE work is weird frame sizes.
Premiere allows you to set the decklink into HDR mode but after effects does not

The mini monitor will output hdr metadata over HDMI.
AJA offer more control and accurate description in their converters.
