Delta Keyer Not Working?

PostFri Dec 02, 2022 2:26 pm

Hi!

I just wanted to test if you can key a darker background when you have a perfect clean shot of the background (clean plate). I have made two PNGs for this purpose.

However, the Delta Keyer does not seem to be interested in my finished Clean Plate. Am I making a mistake?

Delta keyer is what is known as a color difference keyer. It works by measuring the distance between two color channels. It just won't do anything for an image that is monochromatic. At best you could set the screen color to red and isolate the red gear, but you'll never get a matte for pixels with no saturation, no matter how amazing your clean plate is.

I just wanted to let you know that I wasn't wrong with my setting. It just doesn't work with the dark background. I replaced it with a "dirty" green and it worked.

Hey,

1/ yes, your settings are not "wrong", but the idea of using a delta keyer here is a mistake. Use a Luma Keyer instead to have better results;
2/ also give a try to the difference keyer... I never do but know it's made for this;
3/ there are several ways to get rid of black anyway, including very basic but rock solid efficient ways with a couple of nodes, with a bitmap node inside ;)
