Davinci Forces wrong Sample Rate

PostThu Mar 30, 2023 11:08 am

Hi there,

Davinci Resolve forces 48khz Audio Sample rate when opening. I already read all possible posts on this topic but found no solution. I recorded a video on it. Can anybody help?

Thank you and warm regards,

It's the industry standard.
What rate do you want?

44.1
If I do the same on my Macbook Pro M1 (just checked), same Audio Interface (Apollo), the Samplerate stays at 44.1 . The behavior is only on Windows.

Adam, as Peter says, the audio sample rate standard for video is 48khz with a bit rate of either 16 or 24.
An important factor is that 48000 is divisible by 24, 25, 30 and for interlaced television 50 or 60.

These are common frames per second increments used in film and video production. 44.1 is fine for CD’s but when dividing by frames per second you need a round number to perfectly sync. The table below will help explain why.

48,000Hz / 30fps = 1600 samples / frame
48,000Hz / 24fps = 2000 samples / frame
44,100Hz / 30fps = 1470 samples / frame
44,100Hz / 24fps = 1837.5samples / frame

I've had a listen to the video you posted. The audio must have been recorded at a low sample or bit rate as it is full of artifacts.

thank you for your reply. I am an audio engineer and know about the 48 vs. 44.1. But actually I need to work in 44.1. Has anyone a solution for this?

You can bring a 44.1 khz audio track into a Resolve edit with no problem as Resolve will do a sample rate conversion on the fly.
UAD Apollo interfaces can run at 48khz and above.

You can also change the sample rate used by making a selection in the Project Settings/Fairlight tab before importing anything into a Resolve project.

For a video project? That's not common.

Would an audio editor like ProTools be more appropriate for the job?

There's a Sample Rate setting on the Audio tab of the Render Settings, Deliver page.

Did you verify that before export?

For Music Videos, to be uploaded to Youtube, both Youtube and a mastering engineer on an audio forum who did independent testing, have recommended that the audio component of the videos should be uncompressed PCM audio 24 bit 44.1 SR to give the viewer the best audio quality after Youtube's standard processing of uploaded videos. Videos in Quicktime (.mov) created in Resolve can have uncompressed stereo 24 bit 44.1SR audio. As mentioned above, if you have a video with 44.1 audio or separate 44.1 audio and want to create a final video with 44.1 audio. when you first open a new project and BEFORE any media is imported, you should go to the Project Setup, Fairlight Tab and change the default SR from 48 to 44.1 This avoids unnecessary sample rate conversions for rendering.
