Royalty Free Music For Showreel Scenes

PostWed Mar 15, 2023 6:49 pm

Hi,

Can anyone recommend some good royalty free music sites for short narrative scenes that I shoot and edit for actors to use in their showreels?

I’ve spent a bit of time looking through main ones such as Artlist and Epidemic Sound and the amount of content is a bit overwhelming and most of it seems more geared towards cinematic wedding films or epic b-roll.

I’m looking for music that can be used to score narrative scenes, similar to the examples in this video:
https://vimeo.com/808423333/21753b73d2

For short films I tend to use a composer but there isn’t the budget for my showreel clients.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Matthew

I forget the name of the service, but Cinematographer Phillip Bloom has a YouTube channel where you can hear some of his choices in his videos (and find out the name of the service he uses).
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

One of my go to from an indie musician musicscreen.org if you're looking for piano intimate, world or fusion music you'll find a lot of interesting tracks.. but for electronic music (also amnient music) there is not much choice and the music offered is not really interesting..

Video Marketing Goldmine by Sean Donahoe can help you out. He goes over where he gets royalty free music. Try musicloops.com for Royalty free music loops and full length tracks for preview and immediate download.

I use AKM Music they have a vast amount of different types of music specifically designed for film/TV use. There are some technicalities that make the tracks easier to use. See https://www.akmmusic.co.uk/

Some of the tracks come with long versions, seperate intro's and outro's stings and beds. eg https://www.akmmusic.co.uk/positive-thinking
