Apple Silicon computers do not support additional internal or external GPUs. Your eGPU will not work with your M2 in the foreseeable future.

"eGPUs are supported by any Mac with an Intel processor and Thunderbolt 3"

They’ll never work, since they don’t make sense. The unified memory is much faster than any PCIe.
The enclosure should work with I/O cards, though.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
