DaVinci is screwing up my footage with strange lines

PostFri Aug 12, 2016 4:21 am

The pass few days Ive been messing around in DaVinci and slowly over time it has been causing these strange lines to appear over anything moving. At first I thought it was just the preview screen but when I rendered the footage it started showing up in the edited footage. The other day the program was working just fine but over time these lines just kept getting worse and worse. If I go to Playback, Proxy Mode and turn it to Half Res. It fixes the problem but as I mentioned before it's showing up in the video after I export it.

Here is the footage in the edit panel

Here is the Image in the Deliver Panel

And this is the Image as it looks like before I bring it into the program.

You are processing interlaced footage at the wrong size.
Resolve Studio 16.2.8 and Fusion Studio under MacOS Mojave 10.14.6
iMac 2017 Radeon Pro 580 8 GB VRAM and 32 GB RAM
2018 Mac mini 16 GB RAM plus eGFX Breakway Radeon RX 580
(currently my test system for DR 17 beta under Catalina 10.15.7)

It also looks like it's possible it's a field issue where the even fields are happening before odd, or it's massive H.264 compression problems. I've seen this on the air on local LA TV stations on occasion.

I'd go with field dominance, looks like the fields order is the wrong way round so you get that 'combing' effect

This problem is common with interlaced footage in Resolve. If there's a solution, haven't found it. Are you really sure it ever worked?

Anyway, if you've exhausted other possibilities. try de-interlacing the footage outside Resolve and bringing it back in.

it's a problem with any system, not just Resolve

the first piccie looks like interlaced footie in a progressive project
the second piccie looks like interlaced footie that been scaled in a progressive project

make sure you have the de-interlaceing values correct, and fortunatly Resolve forces you to do it in the media pool before any scaleing, but if you are using a plugin to de-interlace make sure you have input scaleing bypassed, and de-interlace, then re-do any needed scaleing

It may exist potentially in every system, but there's no fixing it in Resolve -- at least no fix I could find. Can't speak to the OP's project settings or footage, but I've seen it with interlaced footage in interlaced projects, all settings matched.

de-interlace in the media pool as of 12.5 is supposed to sort this

BCC de-interlace does the job for pre-12.5 systems

i've use BCC, but not had a single frame of interlaced footy since 12,5 came out to try it, but try Resolve's native first is what i would do

and if it's not up to the task, then turn to BCC and take care to avoid any scaleing before the de-interlace is done
