ATEM Mini as an alternative to Web Presenter?

PostFri Sep 13, 2019 11:04 am

On the ATEM Mini description on the bmd website it says the computer sees the device (when plugged in via USB?) as a webcam.

So is the Mini basically replacing Web Presenter (minus the XLR/SDI capabilities)? And it outputs 1080p video?

Does the 1080 require extra processing power?

What kind of compression/how much bandwidth is recommended for the 1080p signal?

I like my Web Presenter/ATEM TVS HD workflow but if I can get all that functionality (minus XLR/SDI) in a single device that's smaller than my computer keyboard I'll be pretty impressed!

Basically does anyone in the UK want to buy a flypack with an ATEM TVS HD / HyperDeckStudio Mini and a Web Presenter? :D

I think it's not exactly replacing Web Presenter. ATEM Mini is HD whereas on Web Presenter you are capable to input 12G signal which is then downscaled to 720p.
You also have SDI In so that's convenient.

Still that ATEM Mini is Gamechanger especially when it's cheaper than Nintendo switch console.
That makes it great entry level device that anyone can aford.

I wonder if there'll be Mini XL or something or a Web Presenter G2 in the next year or so.

I've pre-orderered a mini - it was so cheap it seemed crazy not to. Will be a fun thing to play around with even if it doesn't come out with me on all jobs.

I might have missed it in the product page, but is the HDMI out configurable for preview or multiview? If it's exclusively program, that means without upstream monitors you can't even preview your camera before going to program!

When you are using the software control you can set the hdmi output to preview and then use it as a normal switcher. No multi view available but at least a preview signal. That gives you the usb webcam as the only program out. Unclear how the buttons on the panel are working when you have set it to preview mode.

I wonder if anyone knows if the linear keyer can be set to accept fill and key via two inputs.
Am thinking of using a raspberry pi 4 ( dual hdmi ) as a graphics generator for live video.

Anyway - have pre-ordered - looks very interesting for that price , and has the potential to replace a few units on my desk ( magewell , decimator , Atem HD ).

And already I’m thinking of extra features ...
If it were possible to have key and fill via single hdmi , that would be awesome.
E.g. take 60p and split into 2 lots of 30p key and fill. Live CG from a PC ( even if it required specialised PC software ). Given the unit has up/down on each input this would seem possible.

HDMI out can be configured for preview. Switcher can be ran in two setup types. Cut bus or program / preview setup.

The new products IBC video demo on BMD website shows using HDMI out for preview and USB C (webcam out) for program monitor. Starts at abt. 1:51.00

Would of been much nicer with a multiview, but given the pricing point, you can't have it all.

I completely agree. For the big jobs (conferences, etc.) that want their production live-streamed, I'll still be feeding an SDI signal from the ATEM TVS HD rig to my Web Presenter, but what a neat little unit this is to use for breakout sessions, corporate meetings, presentations, etc.! Now we don't have to drag the big stuff to every little thing that someone wants to stream to Skype or GTM.

The ATEM Mini is amazing!
If I could find an equally small HDMI multi viewer with HDMI loop through, it would be a suitable combination for a lot of productions.

Is there an HDMI multi viewer with HDMI loop through product out there?
I usualy run everyting via SDI anyways so i was thinking that adding a SDI-HDMI Micro Coverter on every camera and feeding the SDI loop through to a simple Multivew 4 HD while sending to HDMI from the Micro Converter to the ATEM Mini will be a pretty sweet setup, not to mention it can be used as a Decimator replacement for it's conversion capabilities, AND functioning as a capture card that can be set as an input in Vmix or recorded/streamed using OBS.
It was said i think in a Cinema5d video from the show that it actually encodes to h264 so it won't even affect CPU for that.
This is really amazing for the price.

I was just wondering if the mini would run as a switcher panel
So I could run my old TVS and control it with the atem mini
Or output of the TVS into the mini for web stream instead of buying the web presenter.
Atem tvs , studio converter 4 camera converters, hyperdeck,40x40 videohub. Master control, jvc gy hm700 &170 2 Panasonic aw he60 aw he 2

It seems that first scenario won't work but the second one would.

HDMI multiviever with loop thru looks like expensive hardware .. If U need this scenario , ATEM TVS HD is better solution ..

It has no input conversion, so no. Maybe a future ATEM TVS HD G2 will be.

It looks , like it accept only Video HD resolutions .. If U want to connect notebook , decent scaler is good solution .. Im using Decimator MD-HX (whitch is Bidirectional SDI-HDMI converter, scaler, distributor, ...etc), whitch accept almost all PC Notebook resolutions .. MD-HX is MUST HAVE tool, for me ..

Plus the TVS HD will be more expensive than
Atem mini, multiview 4, SDItoHDMI mini converters x4

SDI camera feeds into mini converter.
Mini converter SDI loop through goes to multiview 4, HDMI goes to atem mini
Only issue, multiview 4 display will be delayed an extra frame behind atem mini output.

But do you want that jumble of wires on ur desk?
Simply buying the correct tool for the job would be sensible.

YEs .. Thats crazy setup :)
If he neeed HDMI inputs , then need BMD BIDIRECTIONAL converters .. HDMI from camera into HDMI IN, HDMI OUT to ATEM mini and SDI OUT into multiview 4 ..

But Atem TVS HD add lot of additional things .. 8 inputs, 2 media players (im using one for titles and one for LOGO) , AUX ...

Yes, well aware of the features and capabilities of the various atems we own/ use several models thought-out the BM range. But this was a reply related more to the costs. Over on the FB site someone has quoted 899 fer the TVS HD. 670 for the mini + multiview + converters.

It's prob. Not something I / we would do, but I do have a couple minis on pre order.
