errmmm... DS, Flame, Smoke, Pablo, Mystika, MC with FusionLink, Pp with dynamiclink to AE all come to mind

And i agree, it is not easy, and i agree you can't do it in Resolve as of spring 2016

i mainly work on commericals in DS due to the first class gfx, audio and comp tools, give up some flexibality in color tools in doing so tho, but overall the day goes better, producer experience is better

Effectively, in Avid DS, I'm doing a lot of roll in different speeds, with the option of motion blur ON, with a link of a tiff file ( ex.:2048 X 18000 ) from my infographists who work in Illustrator. Very easy !! Motion blur is a must in INSPECTOR Module !!!

Yeah, LUT navigation is a pain. Here's a workaround:

You can create a LUTs power grades page, then one at a time apply each LUT to a clip and save off a still. Then when grading you can choose a clip, choose a few of the LUTs stills, and do a Versions split-screen to preview them. It's tedious to set up, but is great to have once you've built it.

I'm happy of two things happen:
1) alphabetical order, always
2) folder structure everywhere.

NO WARNING MESSAGE OR NO CONTROLS GREYED OUT WHEN NODES LOCKED

A thing annoying like hell is:
In Color panel, when we lock a nodes' keyframes to prevent any accident, and when we try later to modify one (sometimes we forget the multiple nodes, locked or not) and the cursors are not greyed out, no warning message remind us that some keyframes are locked.
It's not helping at all.

Editing suggestions. I'd love to see:

1. Have smart bins be able to move and to be put into folders. (I have a hundred or more smart bins for scenes and I'd love to organize them)

2. Matchback function from a multicam clip to its source clip

3. A way to actually work with separate audio tracks in multicam clips

4. better way to switch between two timelines back and forth (the way avid lets you load a select timeline in the source monitor and toggle back and forth between edit timeline and select timeline would be great)

thanks!

Menu organisation:

- Why the Stills/Grab Still is under View?

In all other softwares, the View concern Viewports, interface management, what we view of the job. Not the job itself, just the "superficial" view of it.
Stills are mostly about saving grades and nodes, some stuff in the core of the purpose of this program. It's not just a snapshot of a frame. Maybe "Still" is not a good word too, it don't describe the real purpose of it.
When I click or hit Ctrl+Alt+G, my mind says " I want to save these nodes which I spend hours on". Nothing about "viewing things".
Surely we "see" the effect of nodes, but this is computer and jobs here, not litterature. Stay rational.

- Why not in Color menu?

By the way, why the word "Color"? Why not "Grades" Because grades are not only about color, it's about intensity, masking, tracking, etc. "Color" seems to general to me.

On Color page:

- When adding a Parallel node, why not making it with 2 inputs by default?
We rarely use it just for fun, as far I know it's just a connecting node, no action is linked to it.

- And maybe programmers need to make the nodes linking more easy.
For example, linking alpha connectors, I have to click on a pixel-tight area around the top of the blue triangle to be able to link the 2 connectors. Really not smooth and not helping to work fast.

For the programmer's policy:

When adding a new feature, please make it with consistency and make it anticipating their usage.

Example 1: custom naming the Power Windows don't match on different panels.
It's nice to be able to do that, but it will be consistent than at the same time, after naming on the Window panel, when we go to the Keyframe panel, it's seems logical to have the same custom name on the list. Because having a long list of
Linear Win
Circ Win
...
It's just a waste of efficiency. Imagine having 2 or 3 circular windows? We have to activate it to see which is the good one. A big time looser. More time for programmers but sorry, if you propose a software, do the job entirely. A half-made feature is not so good. I prefer having consistent numbers, than a disparity of names.

Example 2: locking keyframes tracks on the timeline don't locks (or greyed out) the controls
Or the nodes that don't have any action possible attached to it don't shows in UI. When we knows well the tool, it's fine but sometimes we appreciate that the tool helps us to do the job. It's the purpose of a tool.

decades (literaly) ago Flame/Flint would call your phone when done.... was usefull for 1998, but that was before cell phones existed..

But really i'd trade off all the things that can be covered by fusionlink and little good things to get enhanced film-style gradeing tools and better small surface mapping Resolve's core tools are fallling behind, even more with Baselight v5's offerings

More control over compression quality for rendering then "Least/Low/Medium/High/Best" is long due, getting tired of re-rendering files after Resolve exports.

How about a Lens Blur effect?

in addition of the (gaussian) Blur, unusable to simulate correctly (lack of) depth of field.

A software who treat optical image should have what simulate optical phenomenons.

Color page: keyframes!

- The ability to select a group of keyframes, delete them or move at once.
It's a pain tu use now.

- Reseting a Power Window and cleaning all keyframes at once.

Whooo and a big one:

Making duplicates of nodes, that actually duplicate all the info inside, keyframes and tracking data at the right place on the time.

A duplication who duplicates, what a dream. I know I'm ambitious.

the idea is to dor three kind of copy:
copy only the timeline head values (normal behaviour)
copy the keyframes based on tail absolute count (normal behaviour)
copy the keyframes based on first frame of visible image (relative) like any other bloody corrector in the planet. ..

is funny that color trace works in that way, but you cannot do it while coloring.

soo frustrating

DR 12.2 - Bug not Feature Request....

I just noticed today that the "stroke" feature in inspector while editing text adds stroke to the border of the text. So with each numerical increment the stroke takes over the text and eventually completely hides the text color (white text turns black for example). The stroke should be regulated to the outside of the text so that the original text color (and shape) is not tampered with.

Better CONSISTENCY IN NAMES

Color page/Qualifier, after picking a color, in Matte Finesse panel, if you want to animate the "In/Out Ration" (activate the auto-keyframing), go to the keyframes panel, there this fonction is named "Defocus".

Why?

Can you explain in detail what you would like? I assume you are using 12.5b3?

Feature Requests.

1. I'd love to be able to run both Lite and Studio on the same machine - ideally, have the same program, but have the dongle unlock the studio features. We have 16 suites but only 4 Resolve dongles, it get's annoying to uninstall lite and reinstall studio when a suite needs access to studio features.

2. Watch Folders. Let's face it, half of the benefit of Resolve is using it to quickly create different versions of a file, or to create quick proxy files. Why not setup droplets aka Compressor / Media Composer to quickly smash out the most used output formats.

3. Chroma Keyer - Resolve is meant to be an Editor now. Include a Chroma Keyer.

4. Retime / DeInterlace. Call it Resolve Pro, charge me an extra $2000, and give me the algorithms from the Terranex. Right now, I need to play out through SDI on one machine, go through a terranex, and capture on another machine. Or put out out a file based Terranex - Snell & Wilcox did...

5. Fix Avid Roundtripping. In the very least, put out a detailed instruction manual showing people how to do it. It's a horrible horrible process.

I will wish:
1- an OFX / GPU plugin dust and scratch that works with all formats
2- (I hate unsharpmask) an OFX / GPU plugin for deconvolution for repair Both out-of-focus blur and motion blur (camera shake) in the same way that certrain photoshop plugin (+ piccure, astraimage, focusmagic ...). Probably very consumer computing but the results are excellent in photoshop.

Yes for sure, sometimes when I consolidate a project it fail and stop, I think it is interesting to let the program continue with the consolidation until the end and produce a log with the files that couldn't be consolidated.

Can you share details of the fail? Maybe a capture log and project file? Which clip types etc.

I wrote a longer post of my feature requests, but thought it was worth putting my main one here.

“Previous/Next Clip/Edit” plays havoc if you’re an editor with many years use of go to previous/next edit. i.e. whether there’s a clip selected or not (especially when the clip selected is not near the playhead and you are zoomed in). However I understand that in the Color page, you do want the down arrow to move to the next clip when grading - I imagine this is where this combo command has come from. My major request here would be to have a shortcut available in the keyboard editor which is “Previous/Next Edit”. I know a lot of editors for whom I think this one thing would be enough to put them off editing in Resolve.

Similarly, mark clip/selection is overridden by any selected clips, so a mark clip then cut doesn’t follow the in/out if any clip has been selected. This is something I’ll have to get used to. But it is shown visually and this is a massive help. Workaround: Possibly have a good (single key quicker than command-shift-A) keyboard shortcut for deselect all and get used to pressing it after any clip operation.

Display markers on clips even when the timeline is set to not display thumbnails.

Assuming you're in the Edit page, change focus to the timeline (⌘3 on Mac), select a given video track, click in the timeline, and arrow-Up and arrow-down works for me.

Hi Marc - yes, that does work, and is what I am doing, but it's not conducive to fast editing to have to click in the timeline every time you want to go to the next edit (if you've previously selected a clip somewhere), especially if you mainly use the keyboard. I release that apps like this or Smoke included editing more for changes than for a full edit job, and so what I'm talking about might seem a bit fussy. But if you spend most of your time in the timeline, these things can make or break it.

I think what I will try to get used to is to deselect a clip after I've done any operation on it, and always be in the state where next edit does work.

I've been beating the drum on this one in other threads, but it's hard to overstate how disruptive this design is for an editor accustomed to the conventions of virtually any other NLE. It's all but impossible to unlearn, because (I'd argue) it makes no sense in an editing workflow.

Again (at least for me), it's

1) selected clips, which you typically forget are still selected and which may not be on screen, override the playhead cursor when using up/down for timeline navigation. This routinely leads to big surprises and loss of place in the timeline.

2) operations which edit clips into the timeline don't shift the focus to the timeline, with respect to navigation (next/previous clip). Each time, you have to click the timeline first. This is also next to impossible to remember, being unintuitive.

Hi John - re no 1, exactly. Especially happens when you're zoomed in.

re 2, are you using the latest 12.5? For me I have the setting Edit>Switch To Timeline After Edit ticked and the focus moves automatically from source to record on insert or overwrite. Is that what you're referring to or something else?

Yes, I'm current (on Windows), and that setting is selected, it's the default.

After editing in a clip from the Media Pool, the timeline playhead will function, but not the previous/next function of the up/down keys -- that remains in the Media Pool, unless the timeline window is clicked.

And when editing in a clip from the source viewer, the playhead focus remains in the source viewer and the previous/next focus is in the Media Pool(!)

Are you getting different behavior on the Mac version?

Win7/12.5.0.052
