Kim, what did you attach to the control fluid head to control the camera movements? This is a grand set up for some remote camera applications.

Dummy head, now all you need is a dummy zoom rocker and a focus ring. Joysticks and knobs are for suckers.

Kim, i just can’t wait to see if the price is in my range of tolerance . I got a couple of avionics ptz cameras in my setup that I can’t bare any more.
For PTZ I think the only atem that has control is the studio pro but not sure it is implemented yet cos’ the atem range needs a firmware update that hasn’t come yet. It seems that with the 1 or 2me panel, ptz is control is available but haven’t seen anybody using it. Anyway, I may be wrong, but I think this is some kind of gadget as in production, I can’t see where I would I have time to produce, give orders to cameramen and manage the ptz devices at the same time. To me an external control panel for ptz is always required.

I agree. We used PTZ cameras for live event (meetings) coverage on a live cable TV feed, and had to have a separate PTZ camera controller and operator, as the tech editor on the vision mixer (ATEM) was busy switching Camera feeds and putting up graphic keys. You can only have one person do so much.

And gimbal control when using LeViteZer protocol over Ethernet. The LeViteZer protocol will be public.

All parameters can be saved and recalled, including full gimbal control, that is much better than normal Pan/tilt control. Angles can be controlled very precisely and also how fast it moves to next angle (from 0.0001 to more than 360 Degrees/second.) and also how fast it accelerates, making the starts and stops of the movement smooth if wanted, or snappy. And yes, as it is a gimbal, roll can be also controlled.

Today we did also first tests with the PTZ control over SDI that BMD now provides and it works good, though is much more limited than using the full gimbal control over Ethernet, but the advantage is that everything is controlled over SDI.

Cool. You're too deep and need to slow down and explain this to the cave people like me. Does your software talk to the cameras via a custom Arduino shield or is an Atem still required?

Pretty smooth so far.. See some hard stops at the begin / end of movement.. But that is a bit difficult to get ramping up down smooth enough i guess.. I have my decent share of DC motor controller done so far.. And there is a point were the motors have enough torq to get moving.. Not to mention mass in movement..

So Kim, how much are the gimbals? Looking good!

Take a look into the motors of Tilta.. The Nucleus motors are quite "cheap" ($300) Are able to control on a bus structure and also wireless..

I do have a redrock follow focus motor with control.. Was about to rebuild the control interface of that one.. And buy some more motors.. But with $695 they are quite expensive..

So is there a timeline on when the Ethernet control will be available? Also can this be mounted on a pole hanging upside-down from a truss?

Sorry Kim but 1500 for big box when you can get skaarhoj with hardware controller to it for 100 euro more is way to high. I would be interested but this is to expensive

Hi Kim, the USB to SDI, is it based on the arduino shield? If so It's useless for me as I work in 4K

Please do explain, I have hard to believe this as the shield is 3G sdi. This has been the only reason why I can not use the shield. :-/

Strange, as you say input only and I said this myself but others said it would not work with 4K.
But I trust your statement as you sell this, as if it would be untrue it would be bad for business to make claim. Thanks for explaining

Your developing VISCA for your pan & tilt head would be of significant interest. We currently use Mark Roberts Motion Control software to subject-track with Canon PTZs (via ethernet VISCA). It works superbly. I'd like to be able to put an Ursa Broadcast on a P&T head, then subject track with MMRC via VISCA.

This is very similar to the setup I'm envisioning for my education facility. The MRMC tracking software looks incredible.
