Project Backups Vanished! + AI Super Scale Crashes Win11

PostSun Apr 27, 2025 7:20 am

Good evening,

While trying to overcome a glitch with the AI Super Scale's 2x and 4x NVIDIA RTX Video options (they crash my computer and cause Windows 11's blue screen to appear before rebooting my system), I tried accessing the project's backups. I discovered they're all gone! ... Not only for the current project, but for ALL of my other projects. I checked the location in DR's preferences, and it was accurate. I checked my SSD, and all of them still exist.
DR does, however, save new backups of open projects, which can be accessed.

Is this a glitch? How do I access my prior backups, and how do I find out which one is for the project I've been working on?

Also, is the AI Super Scale a glitch, or is it trying to use a feature that my NVIDIA card does not have? All of the NVIDIA RTX Video scaling options worked fine in v19.

Thank you!

Roger

Good evening,

After Windows 11 recently did some updates that fixed a timeline problem, I wanted to see if it resolved this issue. The answer is no.

However, I discovered that projects only crashed when using the NVIDIA RTX Video scaling options (Edit tab) when a Sharpen node (Fusion OR Colour tab) is used on the same clip. Once I removed the Sharpen node and reduced it to 2x NVIDIA RTX Video scaling in the Edit tab, it stopped crashing. If I increased it to 4x NVIDIA RTX Video scaling, it crashed. If I used ANY NVIDIA RTX Video scaling with a Sharpen node on the same clip, it crashed.

These were my findings. I hope it helps.

Sincerely,

Roger

How much VRAM does your GPU have?
Resolve 19 Studio, Fusion 9 Studio
CPU: i7 8700, OS: Windows 10 32GB RAM, GPU: RTX3060
I'm refugee from Sony Vegas slicing video for my YouTube channels.

6GB GDDR6 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060
I can see where that may be a limiting factor in SuperScale.

I recommend at least 12 GB of VRAM for Resolve.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Good morning, RCModelReviews,

I have 6GB of dedicated video memory. More info about my computer is listed after/below my name.

Thank you!

Good morning, Jim,

Thank you for your response!

All of the available scalings (including RTX ones) worked fine on my laptop in version 19. x, but the ones I noted didn't work in version 20.0 B1 or B2. (I can't recall if I tried it in B3, but I know I didn't try it in B4 or the v20.0 release because I wasn't working on any projects requiring scaling at those times.)

I agree that I'll need to upgrade to a laptop with at least 12GB VRAM. (No space for a desktop setup with my family and small apartment.) God willing, they were able to resolve the issue.

Sincerely

Roger

You could check your task manager see if VRAM is overflowing into system ram 'Shared GPU Memeory'

4K timeline 720P media with Nvidia 2x and 4x (Ultra) both use under 6GB Vram, 1080P media under 6GB for Nvidia 2x, but 8GB for Nvidia 4x, but I would guess there's no benefit in 4x a 1080P media for a 4K project unless it delivers a certain effect
