No way to view Multicam 1x1 and switch angles?

PostTue Jun 26, 2018 12:02 am

I'm trying to work with the Multicam but I can't seem to get it to do what I want.

I want to be able to view the clip at 1x1 in the Source Monitor, as in viewing only one clip at a time. Viewing multiple angles at a time is distracting when I'm pulling selects.

But, when viewing the clip in the Source Monitor, I can't seem to switch to the different angles while viewing in 1x1 view. Have tried mapping the Switch Angle and Cut Angle shortcuts to different keys but it's not working.

I don't understand the underlying idea. Multicam requires more than 1 camera at a time. If you only want to see one angle at a time, don't use multicam. Just sync them up in the timeline and disable them alternately.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Here is the idea --

I want to use Multicam for all of the features multicam provides.....Having multiple angles synced together, all with one audio source etc....

EXCEPT, while pulling my selects I want to just see each angle at a time without the distraction of the other angle.

I don't want to do any syncing or anything on the timeline. I want everything bundled up together in the multicam clip.

Every other editing software with a Multicam functionality has the ability to toggle the viewer to a single angle. It's a very simple function and necessity of multicamera editing.

Wouldn't hiding the source viewer do what you need? You can still use the keyboard shortcuts to cut to each angle as long as the hidden source viewer is in Multicam mode.

Edit: I see you can put the source viewer in 1x1 mode as well. I initially couldn't perform cuts just like you say, but after selecting/deselecting some of the different panels on the Edit page it started working.

I'm wanting to use the Source Viewer, but just in 1x1 mode. I don't want to put my clips into any timeline, I just want to view them in 1x1 mode, be able to toggle between the angles, and then be able to set in and outs where I want to place that content into a timeline. It's a super standard Multi-cam workflow than any other editor out there can do.

This seems to work for me. I'm using the shortcuts from the Edit, Multicam, Previous Page or Angle.

Ok cool,

so mapping the 'Next Angle' and 'Previous Angle' does indeed work, but the shortcuts for the 'Switch to Angle 1-9' Do not work in 1x1 mode.

I doubt it's a "super standard multicam wf"... I've been making multicam for ages and the super standard behaviour is to click - live - on the chosen angle during playback, during the time you choose to. Then it results in a TL with different clips, and now you may switch from a multicam angles view to a basic view to fine tune your prior clicks. This sounds more like a standard wf imho.
Else, Rohit probably gave the best hint.

The switch to angle 1-9 is for the current view I feel. Else if you have 18 angles, and when you are on the second screen, you will have no ways to switch.
