HOW MANY ULTRASTUDIO 3G RECORDER DO YOU USE SIMULTANEOUSLY ?

PostWed Dec 27, 2023 12:19 am

Dear users of several Ultrastudio Recorder 3G simultaneously, could you indicate your configuration and your satisfaction:
- How many Ultrastudio Recorder 3G do you use simultaneously?
- Which USB hub do you use?
- on Mac or PC? (Information on the computer: processor, OS, memory....)
- with what software (OBS, Ecamm Live...)?
- problems encountered?

Here is my future configuration:
I plan to connect 4 Ultrastudio Recorder 3G ( for 4 cameras ) to a Thunderbolt hub on my Macbook Pro M1pro with Ecamm Live software. I will probably use the USB output of my Atem mini as another converter to integrate a PowerPoint.
I'm not sure that this configuration works perfectly. If you have any suggestions...

Hi,

I've been using up to 4x the recorder 3G without any issues [BUT!]... (I'm working at a tech startup making multi cam "easy" we are building something that comparable as ecamm live).

You only need a good Thuberbolt 3/4 hub / dock. and it should work without any issues...

BUT; then I updated to MacOS Sanoma, and gone Recorder 3G as in put source.... I simply cannot select them as a capture card anymore. They are found in the Desktop Video Setup utility and ONLY in OBS when I add a black magic device (NOT as video capture...)

So weird...

So to conclude, they work really well. But they do not in Sanoma...

Sanoma has strict permission requirements.

Run the latest BMD Desktop Video installer again. You'll be prompted to enable various permissions.

Hi, I've run some tests:
  • How many Ultrastudio Recorder 3G do you use simultaneously?
    • 3 Recorder 3G and 1 Monitor 3G
  • Which USB hub do you use?
    • Anker PowerExpand 5-in-1 Thunderbolt 4 Mini Dock
  • on Mac or PC? (Information on the computer: processor, OS, memory....)
    • PC: Intel NUC 12 Enthusiast Kit - Serpent Canyon (NUC12SNKi72)
    • CPU: Intel i7-12700H
    • RAM: 64GB (not sure  but at least 32GB)
    • GPU: Intel Arc A770M
    • OS: Win11 Pro
  • with what software (OBS, Ecamm Live...)?
    • vMix & OBS
  • problems encountered?
    • Every time I restart the PC, I have to find out which Recorder 3G is which in the configuration because they all have the same name in the list, and I believe there is a race condition regarding the order of the hardware assignment.
    • But it runs smoothly when I was testing on OBS with NDI-Streaming (it was an Usecase-Test).

Last week I had 2-day Live-Streaming
  • How many Ultrastudio Recorder 3G do you use simultaneously?
    • 2 Recorder 3G
  • Which USB hub do you use?
    • none
  • on Mac or PC? (Information on the computer: processor, OS, memory....)
    • PC: Dell Alienware m18
    • CPU: Intel i9-13900HX
    • RAM: 64GB
    • GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070, 8GB GDDR6
    • OS: Win11 Pro
  • with what software (OBS, Ecamm Live...)?
    • vMix
  • problems encountered?
    • I think, the same as above (not tested). But no issue while Live-Streaming

Be aware: An USB-Hub wouldn't work, you need a Thunderbolt-Hub.

Best regards

Thanks for this... I tried it... but still no luck

Weirdly: The 3G is detected in the Desktop Video Setup (see attached images)

And even in Quicktime --> New movie recording it sees the 3G but as audio input ONLY?...

Any ideas?

Is it not simpler and potentially cheaper to use an ATEM Mini HDMI or SDI? Looks like a lot of interfaces plus configuring to achieve the same as one of those switchers and you don't have the benefit of ATEM control software to manage and monitor the whole thing?
2 x Sony FX9, 2 x Sony FX6, 4 x Ursa Broadcast G2, 3 x Canon CR-N500 PTZeds with MRMC auto-tracking, ATEM CCU, ATEM TV Studio 4K, PixelHue P20, Analog Way ASC32, Dataton Watchout, Reckeen 3D Studio & vMix 4K

Fair point, but I want something that can record 4-8 streams as ISO on my laptop (in this case the software I'm building).

The ATEM (mini / pro / iso) is really great and I use(d) it allot. But this device will only give you one (usb) stream to your Mac / computer.

[SOLVED, for me] I've read back many post and ran scripts etc etc etc... All no luck...

Then;
- I uninstalled 12.8 with the uninstaller from 12.2.3
- I installed Desktop Video Setup 12.2.3... Rebooted --> WORKS...
- I Installed Desktop Video Setup 12.8 (again) and that seems to work also WORK...[/list]

My conclusion; there was something wrong with permissions yes (although I accepted / enabled those in security and privacy multiple times)...

In my scenario (Multiroom-Event), we needed a mixer that outputs Program and M/V over NDI, which is not possible with ATEM Mini/SDI, unfortunately.
