BMCC 6K - no gyro stabilization in resolve (canon 70-200)

PostSat Apr 20, 2024 5:05 pm

Hi everyone

After waiting patiently for the NAB, our production now decided to pull the trigger on the BMCC 6K. Using the Viltrox locking EF-L mount adapter I was trying all our lenses out, just to check that all functionality was there. Everything works perfectly well except there’s no gyro stabilization option in resolve, when the bmcc 6k is paired with Canon EF 70-200 2.8 III. The firmware is the beta 8.6. Same lens shows gyro data when used on BMPCC 4k (metabones EF to MFT), the same 8.6 beta firmware.

Here are two braw clips if anyone would like to check on his part:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1n3Osd3HzqTJ5MneioZZurIjwfuTs15i4
B001_… clip was shot on BMCC 6k,
C003_… clip was shot on BMPCC 4k.
Same lens settings, same firmware.

Metadata of the lens is captured in the braw, I tried all the different settings on the lens itself, no stabilization, stabilization 1/2, af, mf, nothing shows the gyro. Don’t have another ef-l adapter to test though, and I didn’t test with older camera firmware.

Gyro stabilization does show with other canon, sigma, tokina, laowa, great joy lenses, just the 70-200 seems problematic with this specific camera setup.

Is it a camera / firmware bug? Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Check also if adapter had a firmware update.
I had used adapter along in the last ten years and every adapter had coded the working process of every lenses you could mount.
May be that is not completely compatible with it.
