2110 IP Mini BiDirect 12G SFP

PostTue May 21, 2024 10:25 am

Got very interested in this nifty converter but a few questions comes in mind.
Do you know if it will work as the SDI mini SFP converters so you can have a pair of them, one interfacing the camera via SDI, the other interfacing the switcher (constellation 2m/e) via SDI? To do you need to have the 8x12G 2110 to SDI converter unit for it to work?
The SFPs supported are stated both 3,6 and 12G SFP but also 10G Ethernet SFP. If using e.g. a 3G SFP will the 2110 conversion be ignored, meaning it will work a the old SDI mini SFP converter? Or will it in some way send 2110 data on 3G SDI?
If it is possible to connect two of these to provide conversion to and from 2110 (as per my first question) will the intercom work? Can I connect my existing intercom (a standard yamaha mixer) to one side and have the camera operator talkback work? The constellation have intercom with RJ45 out, can that be used to interface the 5 pin XLR on the 2110 bidirectional mini converter? The reason I’m asking is the old camera converter required the rack mount SFP to SDI converter to have intercom, but that’s sending it on SDI so it’s understandable. This new sending it on 2110 packets with a different stream from video might be different (hope so)

I don't have the exact answer to your question but I asked myself the same thing.
According to product specs:
5‑pin XLR talkback headset connection for talkback on channels 15/16 in the SDI and 2110 IP video.

So talkback is handled the same way than before: by using channels 15 and 16 of the SDI signal.
Which mean you can theoretically transmit intercom using two mini converter, or any product from BMD which handle talkback (Talkback Convertor, Constellation, etc...).

The Data will be 2110 IP format. So no it wont work with a Optical to 12G sdi converter on the other side. You need the 8x12G 2110 to SDI converter unit.. ;)

If you are talking about this unit :

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/uk/pro ... W-CONIP-05

It only has a 10Gb/s SFP (technically an SFP+?) socket for the 2110 IP connectivity - which is Ethernet-over-Fibre.

The SDI connectivity is only SD/HD/3G/6G/12G baseband copper via BNC. There is no SDI SFP connectivity that would allow an SDI SFP to be used.

These units are for 2110<->SDI copper interfacing.
