Lowerthirds from Hyperdeck using SDI Fill + Key

PostMon Mar 29, 2021 2:46 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to get some animated lower thirds files from my Hyperdeck Studio Mini into the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO.

The Hyperdeck has two SDI's out (A and B) that run in Decklink mode, so A has the fill and B has the key.

I run both SDI outs through Blackmagic 3G SDI->HDMI boxes into inputs 4+5 on the ATEM Mini.
Set input 4 as the fill, and input 5 as the key using the luma on an upstream (or downstream) keyer.

I'm creating the files using Premier->Adobe Encoder. They are ProRes 4444+alpha 1920x1080 30p files.

On my ATEM I can see that Input 5 looks like a key (mostly black, except a white mask where I'd expect the lower third), and input 4 looks like the full color lower third with a black background.

However, on the program out I see the full color lower third with some black outlines on the right side of the graphics. Almost like the key is shifted a pixel from the fill.

Anyone else using a similar setup? Has anyone else experiences this? Could the shift be occurring in the SDI-HDMI conversion? Some weirdness with frame/field order in the files? Any troubleshooting advice is greatly appreciated.

I know this topic is three years old but did you found a solution?

I think one of the things going wrong is using shaped vs unshaped graphics. Shaped is great for editing, unshaped is for live use with seperate fill and key being keyed in a switcher.

I don’t know the terms shaped and unshaped. I export a lower thirds out of FCPX as a Prores 4444 movie. That always works with other hardware except the Ultrastudio with BM converters.
