Lens for drums capture

with a micro studio camera, I would like to be able to film a drummer on stage in the afternoon or evening with more or less aggressive lighting.

Initialy, I was thinking to a Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 8-18 mm with 2.8 opening at 8. But is it the right choice ? A zoom may not be required ? Would a faster speed be of interest?

I don’t know the width of the drumset and your presumably fixed distance to the drummer to judge your FOV and DOF, but one consideration may be if you want to record with a smaller shutter angle like 90 degrees or less and hence require a faster aperture. You’re not going to eliminate motion blur but some reduction in blur may look interesting.

When I record bands that include a drummer, the drums are not usually the centre of my attention so I’m not the best person to address your query.

I watch several lenses like leika 8-18, also Nokton 10,5... but I don't know

Super angle for featuring the drummer and the drums. The lighting is going to give you a lot of specular highlights. I’m not sure if the client expects this to be in a certain normal frame rate like 30 fps, and how you are recording audio which definitely needs to be in sync with the visuals. If 60 fps with 90 degree shutter angle is feasible, I’d be tempted to try that.

If you have the opportunity to shoot more than one take, you could experiment with either a smaller shutter angle like 45 degrees.

Is this clip going to be part of something bigger or is it just to feature the drummer which might merit multiple takes?
