ATEM Mini SDI Extreme Iso crash

PostTue Jul 09, 2024 1:11 am

I was covering a football game with 6 cameras on the weekend.
I was also using a control panel, 4xBMD cameras (2xPTZ) and a BMD CCU control panel.
This was also being ISO recorded to a 2Tb USB SSD (all 8 sources).

About 3 minutes prior to full time the ATEM became unresponsive and it was like 'frozen in time'.
None of the front panel buttons were responsive (but still indicated the last known state).
The USB SSD also stopped recording but did NOT render the recorded existing content unusable. I was able to recover the missing 3 minutes from a backup recording although it was from just a single source.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? I am currently blaming it on a power glitch but I have not seen any evidence of this on other recordings at the time.

At the end of the game I power cycled the ATEM and it started running as normal. If this had happened in the middle of a game a power cycle would have meant a momentary loss of signal to all my other recordings.

***As a suggestion to the ATEM software engineers: maybe incorporate a 'control' software reset (a combination of button presses) that does not affect the current internal signal paths; a bit like a "watchdog timer"***.

Are you using some network connections?

The ATEM's are very sensitive to wifi network dropouts.
The system is not capable to override a disconnection, instead, count every reconnection as a new one.
After a while, the ATEM is new connection flooded and hang out.
This is specially bad in ATEM mini's, which turns irresponsive.
Seems like the biggest ATEM's have the capacity to reset the connections and only do a brief go and come back
