Recording ATEM TS HD8 ISO Timecode Out

PostTue Jul 09, 2024 1:27 am

Hi there!

Maybe this isn't the correct way of working with timecode, but i had an idea.

I usually have all audio related stuff in a Soundcraft mixer, which have multitrack recording. Sometimes I do ISO recordings and manually sync the multitrack audio (edited in a DAW) with the DaVinci project. I know devices like the Tentacle Sync can output a timecode signal in the form of audio to cameras that doesn't have a TC input, and then DaVinci can interpret that audio as TC.

If I could manage to connect the TC Out of the ATEM to an input of the mixer with an adapter (idea of this below), will that enable me to sync the audio recording to an ISO recording?

Thanks!

Depends. RP 188 TC is embedded in the SDI stream. LTC is just analog audio and is often supplied via a BNC connector but it’s two entirely different things although the same connector can be used for either. Ostensibly the TC out is just LTC (analog audio) but I don’t have access to confirm. The correct adapter should be wired sleeve to shield and pin to tip. LTC is just tones that oscillate between ~960-2400hz so it’s audible if you plug it into a mixer or phones. RP 188 isn’t going to make any sound.

Good Luck
