GPU issue. Won't start

PostTue Jul 09, 2024 6:49 pm

Hi all, new to Resolve and I'm not particularly computer literate either.

I had been using Davinci Resolve 19 Public Beta for a couple of weeks, until one day I lend my computer to my cousin who installs a windows update. The update messed with my mouse and basically deleted the function within the system, so I had to take my computer to a technician who could fix it, now here's my problem:
As soon as I got back my computer I boot up Resolve, only to be met with a pop up claiming "Unsopported GPU Processing Mode" and that I had to update the configuration.
I click on Update Configuration and go to Memory and GPU, there I can see my 2.03GB AMD Radeon Graphics card, except that I can't select it because according to Resolve it has 0.0GB and beside it a texts appears that reads "Main Display GPU, Unknown not supported"
My first instinct was to uninstall the program and install it again. I've now done this over 4 times and the issue remains. My second troubleshoot was obviously to look it up online, but I couldn't find anyone who shared my problem. I eventually tried to get the computer checked and still nothing worked.
So I now turn to you, I pray that someone who can help me finds this.

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows Desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open the Windows System Information app and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here. Make sure the links don't require access credentials.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

I couldn't figure out how to make the .NFO file once I was in the system information app, but here's the log:

We need the NFO. When you have the System Information app open, select its File menu, then select Save. That should save a .NFO file.

Finally figured it out, or at least I think I did. Here's the NFO file:

When it was last working on 6-1-2024, you had Windows 10 build 19H2 installed, with the AMD Adrenalin 23.11.1 driver.

When it next failed to work on 6-13-2024, you have Windows 10 build 22H2 installed, with the same 23.11.1 AMD driver.

I'm not sure why updating Windows from 19H2 to 22H2 would have broken Resolve with the same AMD driver. But apparently it did.

You already have a much newer AMD driver installed, then what Lenovo has on their web site for your laptop, Not sure if you did that manually. I doubt that Windows installed that, or it probably would have changed with the Windows update.

My only suggestion would be to go to the AMD driver site:

https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html

and download and run their autodetect app, and see if it recommends a newer AMD driver. Hopefully it will and if so, hopefully that will work with Resolve 19.

Also, the oldest instance of Resolve running, back on 5-27-2024 was with 19b3. You currently have 18.6.6 installed. Its possible that version never worked on your system. Unless you are sure that it did at some point prior to 5-27. Might be better to test with the current 19b4 Resolve version.

You're a life-saver man, it actually worked. Just had to install the recommended newer version of the AMD driver.

I'm glad that worked. What driver did it recommend?

I have almost the same case here.
I downloaded and installed the ver. 19.0b6 on my windows 11 and it won't open when I click the Davinci Resolve Icon.
Kindly please help me to resolve this problem.
Here are my .NFO and the DVR log :

Your config.dat file is bad.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\HP\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file.

Now Resolve should start.

Assuming Resolve starts, it will have created a new config.dat file with default settings. If you had anything changed in Resolve Preferences, you'll want to reapply those changes.

If Resolve still doesn't start, send a new Resolve log file.

Its work now.
Thank you very much man!!
Now I can continue my work.
You are really a life saver.
