19 Beta 3 - Resolve wont launch on ARM

PostThu Jun 20, 2024 4:53 pm

I recently received my Surface Laptop 7th Edition (with the Snapdragon X processor) and downloaded the Beta 3 release of DaVinci Resolve 19 for ARM. The install process went thru smoothly but unfortunately once I launch DaVinci Resolve, it appears in Task Manager for a second or two and then closes out with no issue. Are there logs I should provide to help with troubleshooting?

I have the same problem.

I bought the Asus Vivobook S 15 with the Snapdragon X Elite and 32 Gb of RAM, and when I try to launch the Davinci Resolve app, nothing happens.

At first, I installed the version 18 of Davinci, but I realised that I had to install the version 19 Beta 3 for ARM. So I uninstalled everything and installed the good version but still nothing happens.

Here is the logs I got from the CaptureLogs.bat file : https://drive[dot]google[dot]com/file/d/11bZY0FzG7QSS040A9AjkX2dAGc2d5zW0/view?usp=sharing
(sorry it seems I can't post URLs)

Issue resolved - it appears that something was wrong with the .net frameworks. I blew all of them out and reinstalled them and the program opened as normal.

Which model did you get, one with a Snapdragon X Plus processor or one with a Snapdragon X Elite? Per BMD's Snapdragon support announcement, minimum system requirements for Resolve 19b3 on Windows for ARM64 is an X Elite series processor.

As even the title says.

What is your opinion on it to edit in Resolve?

I'm having this same issue as well. I repaired Windows, repaired registry, reinstalled Resolve Studio ARM, Did windows troubleshooting compatibility. Still the same thing. It opens in task manager for about 5 seconds and disappears. Never loads. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Please, what did you to fix this issue exactly? I'm facing the same issue with a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 with a Snapdragon X Elite.

I tried installing v19 beta 4 and DR fails to open.

I'm considering getting one of these new PCs as a secondary device for light portable edits, color, and Fairlight work. No rendering...that's what the desktop rig is for. My question is about Fairlight and VST support. Does the ARM version support importing VSTs? If not, then my decision is made...I have a few that are utterly indispensable to my workflows and if they won't work...there it no point is spending the money. Specifically, Soundly Place It, and Management 2 are plugins I use with GREAT frequency.

Any info on how such plugins work in Fairlight would be greatly appreciated!

It's been found that the current Display Driver version, 31.0.57.0 which is dated 20/05/2024, is not working with Resolve.

The solution should be to do a clean install of display driver 31.0.53.1.

So try that if you have the newer display driver installed.

I really appreciate this tip. That's probably what's happening.

Unfortunately, Qualcomm isn't listing the drivers online and neither is Lenovo. Also, the rollback button is grayed out in Windows settings, so there's not much I can really do as far as rolling the drivers back.

Do you know if BM has a fix for this moving forward or is this in Microsoft's hands? @Dwaine

Thank you!

Looks like Beta 5 still has the same issue.

Are we waiting on Qualcomm to fix this with a driver update or is this being worked by the Resolve team?

Do we know if there is a solution in the works that doesn't involve rolling back drivers?

Guys, give them some time.
Other than Apple, who supplied samples of their new ARM machines to developers early on, it seems that the Windows ARM laptops were not available to developers before going to market.

Thanks, Uli. I guess it's just the excitement of the new machine, the potential for great battery life and editing on this great product.

Thank you BM and your devs for all of the hard work you guys do. I'll keep waiting.

No mention of arm in the patch notes.

There is a recent YT video for the vivo book and it shows it editing verywell also for a surface. All these are the 12 core x elite.

I found a solution for OpenGL initialization faild problem on Windows 11 ARM64.

I just Install "OpenCL, OpenGL, and Vulkan Compatibility Pack" from Microsoft Store and DaVinci Resolve now working without any problem.
