Viewing metadata direct from raw file

PostWed Sep 09, 2020 4:14 am

I am wondering if there are any tools or utilities that can display the metatdata directly from a BMD raw file. I have a lot of files sitting on the SSD that I should have downloaded earlier, but... The metadata will tell me what shoot the files were for, but without looking at the metadata I only have the file date to go on. I do normally keep other shoot records that would have helped, but with the COVID situation things have not been as organised as usual.

The alternative is to play each clip to see what it was for.

thanks,
Darryl

If you're on the Mac, Get Info on the file will show you some of the essential ones.

The Kyno program displays thumbnails and metadata for BRAW videos, and they look great.

I just downloaded it (in a one-month trial version), and its features are very interesting.

However, at this time you can't play the BRAWs, and that means you can't mark in and out on clips either.
I assume this issue is due to the recent change Blackmagic has made to their BRAW player app for Windows, and will be fixed soon by the Kyno developers.

The information displayed for each BRAW clip is as follows:
Miniature
Clip name
Recording date
Duration (rounded to the second)
Resolution
Aspect ratio
Fps
Bit rate
Start time
Ending time
Video codec
Audio codec
Clip creator (camera name)

There are many more columns of metadata, but they are those that are filled in by the user. Kyno saves this user metadata in a hidden file in each folder

You can see BRAW metadata in Premiere Pro by right clicking on the .braw in the project panel -> Properties

Or import Metadata and see the metadata columns in the project panel https://www.autokroma.com/blog/BRAW-Stu ... adata-PPro
BRAW Studio FREE and Premium importer plugins for Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, with a brand new Desktop .BRAW Player and Color Grader, as well as an automatic White Balance Color Picker tool

Check out mediainfo. You can drag and drop files from the external SSD directly into it. It shows a lot of metadata.

Thx! This is the only way I was able to get camera lens metadata on a BRAW file:

The get info in the Mac OS finder also tells you a lot?

Wow this is excellent! Thank you for sharing. Definitely bookmarking this!
Exactly what I was looking for. Still wish I could view lens metadata within Davinci Resolve but this will do for now.
