Video Output Drops on Bi-Directional Converter 3G

PostTue Jul 30, 2024 10:28 pm

Video will stop outputting after (x) amount of time (not consistent), but will start again immediately after unit is rebooted via pulling power cable and reseating. Have tried multiple power supplies and cables thinking it was power related.

It is running a 6ft HDMI off of a Pocket 6k running 1080p 29.97, output via 3G SDI (~130ft) to our Constellation 4 M/E with a return SDI for camera control. We are using it on a DJI RS3 Gimble, so the HDMI output is running 6ft back out of converter into the DJI Raven Eyes unit.

Any input is appreciated!

It’s almost never the mini convertors fault imo if it’s happening under otherwise normal circumstances mid way through a good signal. Have you confirmed this behavior specific to that mini convertor? Sounds upstream of that to me.

This is helpful information. We were under the assumption that it's potentially the mini converter as we've had other units overheat or fail due to heat (we assume). We will look into connecting this specific converter in another configuration to see if the problem follows the converter; had previously ran some other tests with it on other cable runs with no issues, so very likely a cabling issue despite being a new cable run and testing out ok on other devices.

I had a similar issue however found it was due to the way I powered the converters. Moving them (I typically have 4 or more) from being powered from a mac, to a standalone powered hub, solved the issue for me.

Might I suggest try turning the cable scenario around and doing the run with a 40 metre HDMI (fibre version) and putting the HDMI<>SDI converter by the Constellation 4 M/E on a short SDI. That's what works for us.
