Ursa Broadcast G2 and Studio Fiber Converter Remote shading

We run a REMI production and one of the biggest current things we are lacking is shading capability.

My question is, could we take the Studio fiber converter (we already have them) and send them on the road with the cameras, and use LiveU’s IP pipe to connect the fiber converter Ethernet port to the switcher to shade them?

LiveU has confirmed that their IP pipe is built to handle control network communications.

From my understanding, shading with Blackmagic cams happens over the SDI return, that’s something we can’t do with our current setup.

Would connecting the studio converter back to the switcher allow it to pass the shading information to the camera over the Ethernet port?

How I think this would work in my head
8K constellation Network with Shading panel —> IP pipe server
IP pipe —> Studio fiber converter
Studio fiber —> 12G Fiber converter
SDI in & Out —> Camera

Hi,

Short answer, no. You would need an ATEM on-site to generate the shading data in the return vision, the eth in the fiber converters serves no purpose.

The latency over IP Pipe does not allow the ATEM UDP commands to transition properly and you'll find regular disconnects or weird behaviour.

We ended up putting a custom shading software on top to handle this, couldn't find anything off-the-shelf that would do this reliably.
